Isn't it amazing Tom!
Efforts today will yield a eeeny weeeny little thin line (Maple) between the fretboard and the Mahogany neck. Incredible the kind of work that goes into each detail. If I am not mistaken it looks like Subway contributed the fancy glue spreader used today! See you tomorrow when the drying is done.

Time to clean up the edges and level binding and purfling.
Coming together nicely. The Sapele under finish should be pretty amazing.

Final sanding before the fretboard is glued to the neck.
Gather the pieces. Mix the sticky stuff! And the neck and fretboard become one! Looks like Panera contributed the highly technical glueing device today. Who knew there were so many companys making these things. Video Then we clamp it all together to dry overnight. Man this is pretty if I don't say so myself. Just imagine after it goes under the juice!

Today we start with the final shaping of the volute, neck and final sanding of the peg head.
Next, installation of the side markers for the fretboard. We are going with white tubes with Ebony center.

Touch up sanding before the pore filler is applied.
Fretboard and heel are masked before application of pore filler. Tools of the pore filler trade. Notice we are using the expensive spreading tool today. And here we go a pore filling ... the beginning of the finish process.

Tim tells me while some employers in the world are not even handed when it comes to treatment of men vs women in their employ, McKnight Guitars treats both sexes 100% equal. One drinks the coffee while the other uses the spent coffee card to spread glue.
Clearing the excess drips from the peg head. Purdy!

Wow. A lot of work went into it this week. I supposed it's better than sitting around watching all the doom and gloom on the news. I noticed that the news was playing on the radio in the video though. tsk tsk. NO TP FOR YOU!
Seriously, I wish I could be there to witness all this happening in real time. I like watching the LMI videos and he imparts the idea that parts of the build can be stressful. OTOH Tim, you look as cool as a cucumber. What's your secret? Please don't say practice. Luthery is an expensive hobby.

Even though the build is seemingly nearing the end, this only marks the actual half way point. I spend as much time on the finish and set up processes as I do on the actual build process. |
