showing all the steps. It's what happens when you get snowed in. Cabin fever etc.
Anyway, sound hole cut out showing the inside view.

Smile Big SNOW

Cindy says some areas of NC have the most snow in 50 years! Stay warm and have fun...
We have finally gotten some repeated rain so fire danger is now way down. Whew!

I love the looks of the cameo thru the soundhole and this rosette is BOSS

white Christmas for you all

Paul

My thoughts exactly.

This is just beautiful, and I wish there were more sustainable wood guitars around.

What did you use as a top for the persimmon.
Yeah well two orders were from the same guy, he really like persimmon. I used sinker redwood one of them and the other one was spruce, I think Carpathian.

In your opinion, which of those two tops matched better with the persimmon?

Default Top carved

But not sanded yet

And I skipped the picture of the sanding stage but most of you know what that looks like.

Here it is with the top glued on and one side scraped and sanded to look good. The blotchy side with glue smears is away from the camera.

Looks great! I was mistaken I guess. I did not think you used the upper transverse brace when you used the carbon rod bracing? Obviously you still do, but is it smaller then?

Some kind of brace needs to be there to discipline the top and strengthen the cross grain above the sound hole. it's much lighter than braces put in that area that support the fingerboard extension.

John, I was scrolling past the pictures. I was thinking about how beautiful the Persimmon is, and how pretty the rosette is. Sitting next to my wife, she had me scroll back and look at them a few times..."that is gorgeous" she said, totally unprompted. I agree. I hope, for you, that you sell this at the show, but if not, I am looking forward to playing it in March, should it be at BIG.

gotta love it when your guitar passes the wife test. I keep mine on retainer for aesthetic control.

thanks Mike

Default Neck building

First neck is for the persimon round peak.
Here is the lay up. I found a nice piece of black walnut yesterday at the local fine-wood-getting-store and they were very proud of it but curly black walnut is hard to resist. There are two layers of zircote in the mix for added stability (the more lams the better) and to provide a little accent. Now to glue all this together.
