Default help with string difference please

can you tell a difference in feel between hard tension and extra hard tension strings ? Thanks

It depends on the strings, but generally yes. The higher tension strings are a bit harder to fret at the same action height. The strings are stiffer.

The tone should be the same. The response should be different and they may be a bit louder, but they may also limit the dynamic range of the instrument.

Of course the response is different, how couldn't it be , but to me it is also the tone!!!!

Me too. I hear a distinct increase in brightness with higher tension strings. I don't find them more difficult to play - they just feel harder than lower tension strings.

I don't have a lot of experience with hard tension strings, so this is good to know. I like strings that are the opposite of "bright" and prefer "warm & mellow" when possible. Some of my confusion has to do with what someone means when they mention "tone" and "response" as I suspect it might mean different things to different people. Even "volume" can be confusing. Some are talking about how loud the sound is, while others might be referring to the size of the sound chamber.
