I hear a lot of good things about the Fishman Loudbox in general.
They have also come out with a smallerini Loudbox, depending on what kind of giging you are planning on doing, may also be your ticket. |

I play my Godin nylon through a DTAR mama Bear and a Fender Acoustasonic. I by passed the Mama Bear today, and did find the piezo a little quacky. Acoustasonics can be found used today very reasonably. Were price no object, I have had a terrific experience with a large Genz Benz Shenandoah.

I bought my Fishman Loudbox 100 specifically for my nylon guitar, but now use it for everything. It works great. I didn't need 100 watts but the new 60 watt Loudbox wasn't out yet, I give the 60 an audition as well.

I was auditioning amps yesterday (AER and Fishman). The salesman told me that although he prefers the AER for steel strings, the Fishman Loudbox is better for nylon strings.
I was auditioning with a steel string guitar, I didn't have my NS74 with me so I can't confirm that. But he told me this before he knew I had a nylon string guitar, so there may be something to it. I preferred the AER for the steel strings. -David Last edited by CatManTG; 11-03-2010 at 03:20 AM. Reason: Changed NS72 to NS74. I'm not Jason Mraz |

If you want an exceptionally clean amp, consider the Schertler "Unico" or "David".

I have a Schertler David that I bought while considering the AER Alpha but liked the biamped woofer and tweeter combo and two channels. A review by a classical guitarist and other reviews I seemed to find were by instrumentalist which was the focus I had. It does well with both steel and nylon, and it is exceptionally clean. The spring reverb is great and the warm button helps "quackly" piezos.

I have a Roland AC-60 that I use with a DTAR Solstice. Works very well.

I realize that this thread is a little old, but it is one of the threads that comes up when I do a search on Yahoo for "best acoustic guitar amp for nylon string guitar." So because of that I wanted to add some input.
I bought a Godin back in 2004 (Multiac Nylon Duet) and have just played it through my sound system since. Lately I wanted an acoustic amp to play the Godin guitar through, and one specifically that was small, good sounding, decent effects, and has XLR inputs with phantom power. I ended up buying the Fishman Loudbox Artist. It has an amazing sound, (2) 1/4''/XLR inputs, phantom power (24 volts), two built in effects channels and both inputs can access both effects channels at the same time. Lastly, I now see why these amps are called Loudbox - They Are LOUD! The master volume has never been past 1/4 of the way. Hope this info may help someone that might be looking for an acoustic amp for a nylon string guitar. Also, the 24 volt phantom power works just fine to power my Godin and condenser mic - both are rated for 48 volt. Last edited by KennyEC; 12-02-2013 at 06:13 PM. Reason: grammer correction |

My Fishman SA-220 handles all my acoustic needs, nylon, steel string and vocals. Vertical PA and only weighs 35lbs.

I have owned many of the amps mentioned in this thread. I agree with the previous poster that the Fishman SA-220 is a pretty good solution for both nylon on steel string use.

Hi slaminsam:
If you go to the Godin website, you'll see that they recommend the SR Technologies amps, which are manufactured by Schertler. Luke |

pre-amp
In my opinion and experience, it's not so much an amp issue as it is a pre amp issue.
You can make nearly any acoustic guitar sound good--nylon or steel--with nearly any acoustic amp by using the LR Baggs PADI pre-amp. I play my acoustic nylon guitars through a low end Vox DA-5 in small places when I want to get everything in in one trip, or a Roland AC-60 with sub woofer when I want the best sound. I prefer to plug into a PA if available--that is my first choice, actually. The one constant is going through the PADI. I have a lot of EQ options onboard my Alvarez AC60c classical and amps but The LR Baggs PADI is what makes everything sound right.
