Godin Kingpin
Just picked up a Godin 5th Ave Kingpin with a P90 pick up.What would be a good string choice for acoustic and electric? I find the guitar lacking acoustically.I know phosphour bronze strings add to the acoustic sound but not with the pick up.

I use to have a Godin 5th Ave with the single neck P90 pick-up and
used D'Addario Chromes Stainless Steel Flat Wounds. I preferred the (11-50) ECG24 Jazz Light Gauge because string bends were easier, I assume other folks might prefer heavier gauge (12-52) ECG25 or (13-56) ECG26 which IMHO are a more traditional string gauge for this guitar.

I use the Retros Steve suggested above on my Kingpin. Another option is a set of pure nickel round wounds like dAddario etc in 0.13s. The thing is to use something heavier than 12's. These plywood beauties need the mass to get them moving.

Thanks for all the responses.I’ll have to try the Martin Retros.I just emailed the previous owner to find what strings he had on the guitar.Switching to a heavy pic really helped the acoustic sound of the guitar.

Monel or John Pearse nickel wound acoustics, to get the best of plugged in/and uno lugged tone.
Agreed on needing heavier strings, at least on the trebles. Great guitars, and sound surprisingly good unplugged for such a small, laminate box. Enjoy it. I think I'll go play mine right now |

These guitars sound way better acoustically if you change out the plastic bridge for a wooden one. Easily found at Stew-Mac or on eBay.

Agreed! Be sure to fit the new bridge to the top. Not hard, reaps big benefits.

My guitar was upgraded by the previous owner with a rosewood bridge and custom wound P90.
