When I started, ALL I wanted to do was get an audio track recorded. I'd have to just skip to Chapter 15!

Yes, a grid makes things easier for sure. However, I’m going to record a piece that will have something into phrases, so I can’t use a grid. I’ll rely on bend markers to align parts.

Of course you can simply select "Grid" in PT and any selection boundaries you make regardless of where you swipe will be snapped to the nearest grid line for horizontal editing in the same track for example . But since I don't really copy and paste audio within the same track I don't think about snapping to grid that much. Also most of my recording is done in "Slip Mode" not "Grid Mode" and for much of what I record I don't use a click either And I guess I just don't worry about snapping to grid for the kind of editing I do because PT will automatically promote any playlist selection (without it having to snap to a grid) vertically to the main comp playlist or vertically up or down between track takes and they will be correct in the time line (without setting up a tempo map or snapping the selection to the grid) ... So for that kind editing there is no more or less difficulty setting up a tempo grid or not .. But agin it no doubt depends on exactly what you are doing and or what your DAW is capable of doing automatically ???
