Congrats!
Thank you very much, they know just a little about building, I agree.

I have this guitar in my hands now. Who really knew what a Mesquite backed guitar would really sound like? It has quite a bit of sustain, is pretty loud, I originally did not think so, but last night just finger picked it. Today I used a pick to try it out and it projects very well and is quite loud with no effort. I still would put it in the glassy wood category, rosewood-ish. Ryan thought more ebony and I would defer to that as I don't have any ebony guitars to compare it with.

The one thing I will say for sure is of all my guitars, this one may be the most balanced whether playing with fingers or strumming, the bass does not over-power the mids or trebles and each note is clear and doing its part, no wall flowers here sitting in the corner being drowned out by its neighbors. I don't know if this is what people refer to as piano-like sound, but that what it seems like to me. Now is this from the Mesquite or the Sitka that was cut some 50 plus year ago or the build/builders. The answer of course is all three and they combined to make an outstanding instrument.

One further note, Steve did a tremendous job on the hand-cut wooden bluebonnet inlay on the headstock, it is beautiful with no flaws noted anywhere and so far, one-of-a-kind.

Anyone coming to B.I.G., remind me and let me put this unique guitar into your hands, who knows, we may all want a Mesquite, Tx wood guitar!

Yes, I will be very excited to put it in your hands.

I have now had a few days with the guitar. It gets better all of the time. I now think that Mesquite is the new domestic BRW, yeah, I said it! Go Mesquite go! When the rest of you catch on to this, I want to be remembered as the guy that got it all started!

Nice playing Steve, and an amusing video.

What that guitar sounds like to me is like... let's see... a Kinnaird West guitar.

As you know, I've got three of yours. And there are absolutely discernible differences between the three, very big differences between two in particular. Yet, there is an unmistakable timbre they have in common, which makes me think "That's what a Kinnaird sounds like".

And that's a very good thing.

We obsess over materials, but many very experience people say that the choice of luthier is by far the most important parameter.

Congrats, Tom and kudos to Steve and Ryan!

It is really a beautiful guitar with a lovely tone brought forth through a fun Texas concept.

I look forward to meeting it and trying it out in person!

Fun video too--and the koa in the background looks really familiar...

From the recording it seems like it is a very rich bass with a lot of sustain.
Thanks Aspiring! Much appreciated.

Hey Vance, always nice to have you drop by. (Don’t you need to swing up north soon?) Sincere thanks for your very kind words. And I’m pleased you enjoyed the video. I’m thinking I’ve been trying too hard heretofore!

Thanks Kevin! Yes, if you look closely, there is some California drool on there.

Tom, I just saw this post, and I’m stoked. Mesquite is some nice material to be sure. But don’t forget Texified Spruce, Picea mastotexensis. (I think that’s the taxonomic name…)

Very well said. I have enough Kinnairds now that there are definite differences, but the greatness of all of them comes from the builders.

Thanks K-dog and if that Koa is bound for Ca, someone I know is very lucky.

Another Master-class guitar from Kinnaird West! It sounds magnificent. Looks like royal treasure! Another modern legend is born! Tom, you sure have great taste in guitars--and luthiers! So, how many Kinnaird guitars are in your stable now? How many more will there be?
Congratulations! I'm gonna seek this one out at the B.I.G. and warm up by its radiant glow.
