Default Radial PZ-Pre power supply

I use my PZ-Pre when running an open mic so I can quickly mute the guitar when changing players, keeping the pedal off by the PA. It's also handy when there are two players, as I can balance their volumes without going over to the PA mixer and messing with the general settings.
So the last open mic I plug the power supply in, plug it into the pedal - nothing! No power. So I made do with plugging people directly into the mixer that night.
When I got it home, as soon as I pulled it out, the red power line just fell apart right at the molded-in strain relief. next to the wallwart. Now I was always careful when wrapping up the cable and packing it away (wrapping it around my hand, and not the wallwart, but this may have started happening when I had the PZ-Pre on my pedalboard.
Had to order a new power supply ($20) because of course it's 15 volts, not any standard voltage that all other pedals use.
Does Radial use 15v just so people can't use other power supplies?

I imagine when it was being designed the extra headroom made sense. 15v vs 9v, all other things being equal, is an extra 4.4 dB.

I always carry a spare power supply for my two PZ-Pres (I have one for each installed under their respective pedalboards and a 3rd one I carry as a spare). I haven't had a failure yet, but I expect it one day!
