Love the OPs post...

I own a 45, a 50, an AJ (recently bought), and a Bird (recently bought). I also own two Martins and A Tak... three of my Gibsons are 2012s and one is a 2015.

My J50 is my jack of all trades guitar. I am often surprised how loud she can get, and yet how responsive she feels on the couch with a softer touch. I am blessed to own her, as well as my other guitars, which I acknowledge is too many guitars for one person to own. Make no mistake though, the J50 is the one I’d have if I were to have only one.

Cheers man...

My J-45 is a tad unusual ('68 Reissue) and I've had it for over a year and I'm still in love with it. Here 'tis:

Your preaching to the choir here. I have been playing Gibsons since the 1960s. I have been happily settled in with a 1942 J-50 for many years now. It is not as much as I own it but feel it is something I have been entrusted with.

I've played (poorly) mostly Martins in my short time as an enthusiast, and had never payed much attention to Gibson. I sat down one afternoon at my local music shop with my favorite salesman and the shop owner, and they handed me a new J45 and a J45 Custom Redwood...and I was absolutely blown away by the strength of tone! Wow. Almost a "metallic" sound compared to a Martin to my ears, but a very cool tone as well. I regret not having not put a J45 in my little collection...but very well might soon. Great guitars!

It just kicks.
Nothing wrong with Martin's or any other Dreads. They are great.
I just like the voice of my J45. Works especially great with other instruments and my singing.
What Jamie said! His J45 has a distinct voice that does indeed sound great with any of the guitars I play as well as mandolin or harmonica.

I grew up listening to a J-45 and to me it's just what a guitar is supposed to sound like. There are a lot of other great sounding acoustics made and I'm trying really hard to own as many of them that I can but when I need to connect with a guitar I pull out my old, ugly, fire blistered, road worn, glorious sounding J-45.

I have better looking guitars, and I have louder guitars, but I do not have another guitar that can compete with the expressive tone of my cracked, pick-rashed, road-worn, cosmetic train-wreck of a '49 J-50.

No collector would give it a second look. But one strum, and I was hooked.

Love my J-45. I had a J-50 as a Christmas present in high school, stupid of me to sell it, but that's what 20 something kids do I guess. Replaced it with a Gospel model Gibson that had a repaired broken headstock. That was a beautiful guitar, but the headstock broke again. I was able to trade it straight up for a mid-70s J45. It's the nicest guitar I own. I hope to get a Martin one day, but it will keep the Gibson company, it won't replace it.

I love my J45's but this Gospel was my gigger for a few years. It's an amazing sounding guitar, especially considering the back and sides are laminate. I bought it from an old hippy that took it on every camping trip that he went on. When I bought it there was hay in it case, and it smelled like a campfire It was when this guitar went in for fret work that I got my J45 reissue!

Nice, I remember my Gospel was rather ornate, kinda fancy looking. I was surprised when the music store took mine with a broken headstock in a straight swap for the J45, but I've been glad they did ever since. I liked that Gospel a lot, though, might have been on the mellow side of Gibson sound, as I recall.
