Default Stephen Kinnaird SBAIC Instruments

Is it true that in just over two weeks we'll be in beautiful Southern California? That sounds wonderful and frightening as we put the final touches on our show pieces. This year we'll be sharing a booth with Steve's brother John, so if you want to see the whole Kinnaird collective, we've made it easy for you. We're going to try to cram 4 instruments (3 guitars and a mountain dulcimer) all on one half of a table with the hopes that it becomes less crowded over the course of the weekend. If you're around, please drop by and shake our hands. We love to put names with faces so we can play the "do you remember?" game when we get home.

Our selection will include a Sitka/Bubinga CS (already in the AGF Marketplace: here), a Redwood/Indian Rosewood FS, an Italian/Black and White Ebony Parlor, and a Sitka/Black Walnut dulcimer.

I'll post a few shots here of each (still working on the last two), but if you would like to see more, we'd be happy to oblige.

Sitka/Bubinga CS:

Redwood/Indian Rosewood FS:

Sorry for the strong reflection

Italian/Black and White Ebony Parlor (in progress):

Sitka/Black Walnut Dulcimer (in progress):

Thanks for checking us out. We'll update pics of the last two as they are completed. See you on the West side.

Cool stuff Ryan! Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately for me my schedule isn't going to allow me to attend, but thank goodness for my wallet's sake that I won't be able to be there ...I could see me walking away with at least one of these.

You guys build gorgeous stuff. My best to you and my hope is that people find themselves spending money at your table...No "take back home" inventory is what I wish and pray for you!

Is that parlor going to be ready? I thought it was going to have a burst on the top.
Oh yes, good looking round up of guitars, that dulcimer looks good too.

I love the mountain Dulcimer. A truly fantastic instrument! I will have to check it out. See you at SBAIC.

Thanks Tony!

Speaking of, here's a shot of the Walnut back and one of the peghead.

Upside down, but you get the picture.

Thanks for the kind words. An update on the Ebony parlor:

The decision was taken to burst the top, though not to hide any flaws! In fact this was one of the loveliest, most perfect Italian tops in our shop. But I was concerned that the purfling lacked some sparkle. All the tones are muted. For instance, maple was chosen instead of holly, ice blue in place of--oh--Bloodwood or some such. Compared to the last design, this one is not as bright. I still very much like it, but was wanting it to *pop* a bit more. Besides, I'm a sucker for a good sunburst, so here we are. Mission accomplished.
Thanks for looking,

Steve

Great looking stuff as always. Can't wait to see you guys in Santa Barbara. Nice to have a dulcimer at the show. Love the sound holes!!! Your design? If so I might have to steal it if I ever get a dulcimer commission.

Thank you, Ken! Nice of you to drop by. It will be good to see you and those beauties you're bringing. Is SB close enough to drive down? Wish we had a show of this type in Texas.
The soundholes are my version of a design my brother developed.
So, since he and I are sharing a table, come by and chat with both of us about this and other fun stuff. And get ready to explain--again--how you make those rosettes.
See you soon,
Steve
