1997 jose yacopi classical guitar (brazilian rosewood/cedar)
Hi guys! This is the guy that sold that Williams Ancient Kauri guitar for a very low price last month. So low, many of you did not believe it and you lost out. Well, money woes persist and so I am at it again! Up for sale is an Argentinian classical guitar made by the renowned builder Jose Yacopi himself. This guitar was made by Yacopi Sr. before he died, not the son (See info below). In the year of its building this guitar sold for $4000.00 which in 2016, due to inflation means that to replace it would be $6500. Cedar top / All Brazilian Rosewood back and sides / All solid wood (not laminated) / Beautiful roped marquetry (see more info below...)
SO, the FIRST $1750.00 + shipping offer that gets to me, I am taking, which means that is less than 30 cents on the dollar of the value of this guitar (More than 70% off of "list" prices...) You can see pictures of the guitar at the Ebay address given below, as well as all the pertinent information on the guitar. If you want to buy it or have questions, PLEASE call me at 813-783-8998 OR email me directly at : [email protected] I only check in to AGF about every 3 or 4 days, so if you ask a question here, it may be a while before I answer, whereas I answer personal emails immediately. Generally it is just best to give me a call. PICTURES OF JOSE YACOPI GUITAR HERE: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JOSE-YACOPI-...e=STRK:MESE:IT Jose Yacopi 1997 Classical / Bossa Guitar Cedar top , Brazilian Rosewood back & sides 650 scale 52 nut Action: 3.5 mm at the 12th fret (No room in saddle left to go lower, but the set-up seems perfect to me, for this guitar, and it appears to have been designed to be played at this height by the builder himself...) Excellent condition (There are a few nail marks on the top, but they are sparse and nothing is excessive. I would grade the condition of the guitar as 9.9 out of 10. No cracks or issues. Perfect intonation. The Brazilian back and sides are very beautiful. The pictures don't do the woods justice in person. Also of note is the beautiful marquetry in the rossette and in the roped and multicolored purflings (An artistic feature generally reserved for guitars selling in the over $10,000 range...) Purchased from the collection of Darren Hippner, who bought it from the original owner who bought it directly from Yacopi himself in 1997. With inflation, and on today's market, the value of this guitar is $6500.00. It is a fantastic instrument and plays with a lyrical sweetness while still being bold, if played that way. Of remark is the tremendous even temper of tone in the basses, mids and trebles. If you are familiar with classical guitars, even high dollar ones, one of the main "bugbears" are guitars that are "boomy" or muddy in the basses, or thin-sounding in the trebles. It is incredibly hard to find a guitar that is even in tone all the way up and down, and when professional musicians find an instrument like that, they tend to never let them go. Even temper and tone is just that hard to find in ANY guitar, no matter the cost... ; ) Also of note is the clarity of tone of this guitar, as you know that often, Cedar can produce a "muddy" tone if not built right. This guitar was built right! This guitar was built by Jose Yacopi himself and not his son or minions that worked in his shop. Also bear in mind that while these guitars have been stated at times as being "manufactured" in a "shop", take a look at the pictures of Jose's "factory". Clearly a small "custom" shop, doing much the same as the Japanese builders did, back when the Gakki "factories" where actuall custom shops employing only a small number of very skilled luthiers... José Yacopi (Victoria, Spain, 28 December 1916—San Fernando, Argentina, 11 August 2006) was a Spanish, and later Argentinian luthier.[1] Yacopi learned the art of guitar making from his father, Gamaliel Yacopi. In 1944, at the age of 27, he won first place at the Concurso Provincial de Artesanía ("Provincial Crafts Competition") in Barcelona and at the Concurso Nacional de Oficios Artesanos ("Official National Crafts Competition") in Madrid for a Neapolitan-style mandolin. In 1947, Yacopi and his father created, and later patented, an original internal strutting system for reinforcing the top of the guitar. This gives his guitars distinctive and special sound characteristics. In 1949, Jose Yacopi and his wife Pilar Perez-Menchaca moved to General Villegas, then moving to San Fernando in 1951, Argentina, where Yacopi remained for the rest of his life. In 1961 together with his brother in law Agustin Perez-Menchaca establish a guitar factory in San Fernando. Although he constructed various string instruments, he specialized in Spanish guitars. Among the recognized artists who have bought his guitars are María Luisa Anido, Julian Bream, Eric Clapton, Irma Costanzo, Eduardo Falú, Edmundo Rivero, and Narciso Yepes.
