Next Reunion
But now that you're 'in' you can come to our next Kinnaird Guitar Reunion. I'm gonna start planning one for Colorado if I don't hear any plans coming outta Texas.

Right! No pressure. How about some more pics?
Here is Steve's set, showing the sides, one of which has had a shellacking: IMG_1738.jpg At this point in the decision-taking (Stevie will recognize that verbiage) we bombarded the poor bloke with possibilities. Namely trim options. We need to pick the bindings, so how do you like this: IMG_1739.jpg Or this? IMG_1740.jpg In other words, shall we go light, or dark? Casual or formal? Maple or Ebony? Of course, we gave him lots of other possibilities, of which you will be spared, but finally a wood from South Africa--Kiaat--won the race: IMG_1742.jpg We both felt the reds and oranges in this wood complimented the Walnut, accenting some of the more subtle hues. Besides, it looks like Koa, only more so. Thanks, Steve |

Great looking choice of back and side wood and binding. That’ll be a stunning guitar visually and I’ve really enjoyed the tone of walnut guitars I’ve played. Materials selection must be super fun and exciting for a custom build.

The kiaat will be a great choice for the claro. They both have those subtle red hues and the golds look great with the brown.

Another plus is that Steve has chosen Koa for part of his rosette, and the Kiaat matches perfectly. Thanks again! Steve |

Love the colour (and figure) in that Kiaat ... nice choice!

Glad you do, David...thanks for chiming in. And Steve will appreciate your Canadian spelling of "color".
Good to hear Steve. Hey Bruce, thanks for stopping by. Other way, huh? We laid it out both ways, and this is what looked best to us. Really, on a set like this there are no bad choices. And yes, those are the sides. Steve |

And speaking of choices... Both Steve and I were a wee bit apprehensive about designing the rosette. Knowing this can be a make-or-break feature to any instrument. Well, perhaps not so much for piccolos, which possibly explains why you see so few. But definitely for guitars.
Steve knew he liked/wanted Paua which is one of my weaknesses. And, he likes the look as it borders a fancy wood ring. Something like this: IMG_1842.jpg Or this: IMG_1840.jpg So, we dug around, and found a Koa rosette blank, which looks great against the LS, and also compliments the Kiaat. Raw ingredients: IMG_1800.jpg Thanks for watching along, Steve |

Yes, David, it was my favourite post! Haha - Steve caught me out on my British spelling quirks in one of my emails. While I am American, I grew up in England and my spelling is firmly rooted in the British school system
