My only gripe with the Candy Rat and Fret Monkey guys is that the tone is sometimes a little too mid scooped and processed for my tastes. Reminds me a lot of the 80's Shrapnel artists compared to the big label bands. For some reason, Andy McKee and Don Ross have far superior tone.

John Butler, "Ocean"--Not sure if I put the link in correctly; please enjoy the passion of using the guitar to express oneself.
Whether you're "tapping", Travis/hybrid picking, or flailing away, it's the total envelope of sound one makes for expressing your musical soul.
I was fortunate to sit with Michael Hedges on a couple occasions (at The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI) in-between and after a show (I sat thru a 2 concert night and he informed me I'd be hearing the same tunes (grinning) and jokes, then sat and talked guitars--of course!); a gentle, creative person. And as Andy attributes, MH made the road for taking the acoustic into a new age (hence the term)...McKee, DuFour, Graham, et.al.--all acknowledge Michael's path-breaking. If I don't listen to Aerial Boundaries once a week, I'm having a bad week.

He's a fabulous player and composer. I'm hopeful that one day we'll get to hear new music from him. Rylynn, for instance, is 15 years old (time files!!)

He's currently on tour. He mentioned once or twice that he's working on a new album that will be 1/2 electric and 1/2 acoustic. A few of the electric tunes had a strong Shawn Lane vibe.
