Got my new AMAZING guitar from local builder (Brazilian?)
I meant to post a build thread awhile back but never took the time to figure out how to post the pictures since photo bucket thing went off the rails. Anyway, I will start it late now that I have got the guitar and am so happy with it. This thread may be a bit backwards and posting the finished guitar pictures first here but I'll add some of the process pictures too in the next couple of days. Anyway, alas, here is "Ele" (from builder Jim Shenk out of Goshen, IN):

Im a long time fan of the 20's, in contrast to the 30's to current, Gibson L shape and yours i great. They had a 12 fret join and I see yours is 13. Mine is 14. Also the back looks incredible. Im glad for you. So whos the builder?

...and to get is started from earlier more toward the beginning, I had a choice between these two backs cut from a piece of wood a good friend of mine (who did the inlay work) said I could use.

Hi thanks! The builder is a local builder and friend of mine Jim Shenk out of Goshen Indiana, he has a great ear. The inlay artist is my best buddy Brad Baker, also from the area (and he gave me the back wood, which I believe is Brazilian.....had the rose smell when cut into). I started a late build thread too in the custom forum here. I meant to do it as she was being built but was frustrated and didn't take the time to figure out how to put the pictures on since the photobucket fiasco. Lol, finally got to it today and joined IMGUR which took like 5 minutes....

It's beautiful! Congrat's
James Shenk? Edit: Sorry guesses don't count after you post the name. I've seen the label (corner) on a beautiful mandolin.

Right! Wow that's a good eye as not much of the label is showing. ..... he builds great mandolins as well!

She is sounding Sublime! Its hard to put down. I'm not great at describing tone but it's very balanced and has a nice "growl" on the low end as well. Hopefully I can get some videos made in the next couple of weeks, though my playing never really does much justice....

Ok, well to go back even further, the "why" of why I decided on this build. Well, because I played this one and just loved it....and so that's why I decided to go with the Gibson L-13 style.
