Default I'm learning to play funk and having a blast

So I got myself a new Squier Classic Vibe Strat (purple!) and signed up for 30 days free on Truefire. (I tried their courses years ago but didn't stick with them). I have been so focused on learning songs and playing acoustic but I got in a rut. So, I've gone electric for a bit. I grew up in the late 60's/early 70's in California and was spellbound by soul, r & b, and funk. (Pretty funny for little white girl!). I started a course on Truefire that focuses on funk fundamentals. The lessons are perfect for what I want right now, e.g., bite sized licks and technique that I practice. I'm already getting the left hand muting down and can play some James Brown stuff. Next step is cueing up some JB tracks on Spotify and figuring out the licks. Fun!

Throw a phaser and a Q-Tron on the floor and notch up the funk

I don't play it myself but I do love it too.

I bet it's a blast to play! I'm just getting into surf music with my Danelectro and Jazzmaster. It's fun to learn something new!

Whoah!! I feel good!
I love that pentatonic lick that the sax does in that song. You can start it at the 12th fret on guitar. I guess it's major because the root is on the third string tenth fret. It's one of those little go to licks for me. And the one that closes the song. Just fun.

Although I'm predominantly a rockabilly/country player with a penchant for fingerstyle, I love the sound of surf guitar and the playing of those that it influenced also. (Discovered my love of reverb and I became a proficient tremolo picker).

Good luck!

Definitely different techniques going from acoustic to electric. I find it also keeps things fresh going between the two.

Those Classic Vibes are great guitars. Enjoy!

Interestingly funk is making a decent comeback in Japan!
