I have a '62 Gibson ES 330 TD with custom rewould PAFs strung with flatwound Thomastik(?) George Benson strings and a recent refret and crown. Problem with a hollowbody electric is the feedback--it just won't wail like an ES 335. That's not to say it isn't a great player with a terrific bluesy jazz sound. It is great fun to plug into the Fender Hotrod Deluxe, crank up the overdrive and play BLUES. With the current setup, its fast and effortless. Just like all my other instruments--it plays far better than I ever will

Thumbs up

I've got a '70 ES335-TD and a '63 Gretcsh Chet Atkins Nashville (aka. 6120). As several others have mentioned, the ES335 is sweet, and there is nuthin' like that Great Gretsch Sound !!

Check into building your own. usacustomguitars.com

I just built the most incredible strat! Tommy at USA gets the absolute best wood imagineable and the quality of their bodies and necks are the best in the business. He makes the bodies and necks for the expensive companies who charge like $4000 after they put their names on it but you can build your own "no name" or custom name one exactly like theirs for $800-1000.

Not to boast, but people who have played mine say it blows away anything coming out of the Fender custom shop for $3500 and that was the first guitar I ever built. Something to consider. If you do your homework, it's not that difficult.

BTW- Tommy just came out with an arch top telecaster that can be either solid or hollow. It's pretty cool.

Peace.
