Need help on Vintage Yamaha FG-1000 Leather Label
Hey everyone,
I'm somewhat new here and looking for some friendly help about a heirloom guitar I just got. It's a Vintage Yamaha FG-1000 with what looks like a red/brown leather label in the sound hole. It's double bound, well crafted and made in Japan. The projection on this thing is outstanding! It has what seems to be an OHSC with gold lining and a Nippon Japan plate on it. Anyone that can help with info of any type, please chime in. Looking for woods used, quality, valuation for insurance or sale, age, factory etc... The serial number is: 3122 or possibly 31221(?) Ink stamped inside the sound hole at the neck. Aftermarket electronics have been installed on the inside as well.

You've landed a scarce guitar. These were made for just over 6 months in the early 1970s, and I have seen them selling at $2000+US. Very nice.
Back and sides will be Jacaranda (NOT Brazilian rosewood as some will assert); top may be either Sitka or Ezo spruce, probably the former, as I believe the FG1500 and FG2000 got the posh Ezo spruce. Fingerboard and bridge will be ebony with a mahogany neck. The factory is in Hamamatsu, Japan. These were the progenitors of the 'L' series (introduced 1975), and are very high quality instruments, commanding good prices in the collector's market.
