You don't need any compression for the goals you seem to have. If you were releasing a commercial CD, the mastering engineer *might* add some. You said you didn't want to get into recording, and mastering is going down the rabbit hole :-) No one on this thread is a mastering engineer.

if you want to reduce the noise, check out iZotope RX. There's an essentials package for not too much. It's magic.

Thanks to all for listening and responses. I now have a metric/milestone to work to. I will clean it all up and report back in show and tell...

Bob, thanks for your kind words about the composition. I am not sure rhythmically what is going on, but I think this recording will allow me to dig in and write it in staff. I am guessing that will be interesting.

Thanks also for somehow hearing the message. Yes, first light is when every sailor wants to leave and then magically be anchors down before sunset...that happens some times. Really there is nothing standing in the way of that other than tides and currents, wind and waves, wives, mechanical breakdowns, rock and reefs (always steer clear of the rocks Boss), and who knows what else. But every day the sun comes up and that is a new opportunity.

I am in the process of reloading my SC page. I hope that goes O.K.
Be well all,
D

Thanks for the tip Doug, I’ll probably try it out.

This is the essentials package:

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...pe-rx-elements

I use it as standalone program, runs on the Mac or PC, but there are also some plugins

I haven't used the essentials version, but it's just a stripped down version the full version that I use.

I've posted these before, but here's two examples of RX in action:

My cat meow'd on the tail of this. Cat:

After RX, no cat:

I deliberately had a fan running in the studio: Fan (especially listen before the guitar starts):

After RX:
