Default How Do You Control Early Room Reflections?

Aloha Martin Maniac,

Cool looking space & control area.

Question: Adequate Room Treatment? With all the hard surfaces of the framed & glaced album covers (cool), hard walls & window, how do you control your space's numerous early room reflections?

I saw the small amount of foam on the wall. Is that enough? Check out gwlee7's pix RE: homemade broadband absorbers.

Suggestion: Put an SPL meter on your space & see where the issues are & then make some 4"x2'x4' (or whatever fits) OC 703 portable broadband absorbers & place them where needed. I'm sure if you added a couple behind your monitors, above your desk & placed a couple in front of the window while tracking, editing & mastering that you will hear increased frequency separation, clarity & will achieve more consistency in your recordings - especially multi-tracking.

Nice job on the new space.

Keep picking', Maniac!

You might look into putting stands under your monitors that isolate them from your desk and raise the tweeters closer to ear level when seated. I use the Primacoustic recoil stabilizers but there are other good, and newer, choices out there.
I have Auralex monitor cushions under each monitor already. You can see it in picture #8 behind the headphones.

The tweeters are at ear level now.

But, two questions: What's up with the air filter? Where's the blacklight?
The air filter is to hide all the misc AC and USB wires, the back up supply for the computer, and keep my feet from bumping the wires and disconnecting them. It's sort of a rat's nest down there and the air filter just hides it all. It only costs a few bucks and does a nice job.

Sorry no black light...Lava lamp, but no black light.

You need to get the left monitor speaker out of the corner, its going to seriously affect the stereo image and throw a lot of bass around - ideally you want as symmetric a listening position as possible.

Ideally yes, realistically no. It sounds really nice as is, and I like the look and feel of it now. To change it now would disrupt the current vibe I have. To move the left speaker would mean I'd have to get rid of one of the video monitors and I don't want to do that. In a perfect world I'd have a larger room to set up the monitors like you suggest, but the reality is my space is limited. I had it all set up on the longer wall before and that worked okay, but I was limited to one video monitor. I really like this set up now. I'm getting a fabulous sound as is.

Thanks for your input !!

Doesn't the ticking of the clock interfere with recording? and what happens when it strikes the hour?

Seriously, it's a terrific setup - puts my sloppy "studio" to shame.
