Ignore the sour notes and take into account this is a band that was only together for 1 hour a day for 1 week. Listen for the rhythm guitar it is an unamplified archtop. The presence is there cutting through providing the pulse for the band.

Nice to see an acoustic comp-box for a change, but I'm not surprised; as I'm sure you're aware these babies were designed to cut through a far larger ensemble - there's an apocryphal story of a Big Band rhythm player who was asked to dial it back, when his 19" Stromberg Master 400 was overpowering the rest of the rhythm section as well as some of the horns...
