Default Need recommendations for replacement 8" speaker

Well, the speaker blew in my Hugh & Kettner Era1 acoustic amp.
Bummer.
I am looking for recommendations.
Hugh and Kettner aren't talking so what do you guys suggest?

I have read the Sica Full Range 8 inch dual cone Z004950 might be a good choice but I can't seem to find any info on where to get it in the USA.
I am feeling a bit lost in this.

Any advise would be so appreciated.

Having a single 8 and a tweeter as well, it's tough to say. If the tweeter is not part of the woofer, the specs on this seem like it may work...

I also doubt the sica dual cone is right. It is a speaker for AER compact style amp that don't have a tweeter. The Era 1 has a tweeter, it can't be a full range speaker.

There is a good probability that the HK speaker is a Sika though. Schertler, AER, ACUS use Sica speakers.

Why don't you write Sica to ask which speaker is best and where could you purchase it in the US?

If I were in your shoes I'd try to get the original speaker repaired, re-coned or whatever it needs.

Lucky,
Why don't you get in touch with this company, and have the blown speaker in hand to give them any information that it may contain.

Thank you for your suggestions so far.
Removed the blown speaker and it is a Sica but not full range.
It’s 4 ohms and my Amp is 250 watts.
I am guessing I need a 250 watts replacement along with the 4 ohms.
Well that is hard to find... it’s not even listed on the Sica site.
I have been searching the Internet and can’t find a 4ohm, 250 watt, 8” speaker.
I’ve emailed Hugh and Kettner and also Sica. Waiting for a response.
Who knew this would be so hard.
Agghhhh.

Not all the 250W go to the woofer. The tweeter will use a lots of power too.

Anyway the speaker is usually rated above the power amp so it does not blow... There are only 5 pro 8" speakers on Sica's website. You can rule out half of them just by the back magnet pictures?.

Since it is a closed box design you might, a calculation of the low end response with a closed box simulator (there are plenty online) will put you on tracks.

However it would be usefull to know the tweeter efficiency.

You don't want to have tons or anemic high end.

I'd still write or call Sica. Just don't forget to call at Italian time. I mean they probably get 50 calls for Jensen per day just because of the Fender amps, they can answer few calls for Sica.

Here's a viable option: Text Simply Speakers in Florida at 727-767-9072 and ask them if they repair your particular speaker. Their web site is
https://www.simplyspeakers.com

There are so many different stereo, PA, guitar amps, etc out there that I seriously doubt there's anything that can't be replicated or properly repaired.

All you lose is a text message.

By the way: I'll assume that you've ruled out a blown fuse or the like, but I had to mention it.

Regards,
HE

YamahaGuy, Thank you so much for you post.
Hugh and Ketner never replied to any of my emails.
Just installed a speaker from PartsExpress.
Man that sounds so much better than the original Sica.
WOW. I can not thank you enough.
I am back in business thanks to you and sounding better than ever.
THANKS to everyone who chimed in.

You're welcome. Glad it worked out for you. Parts Express gets a bad rap by some, but they're my first resource for those hard to find hard parts like replacement speaker components or xlr connectors. Enjoy that improved amp!

They're definitely a proper source all around. They sell bargain stuff, but so does every speaker company. And they sell fairly high end pricey stuff too. And their tech support is exceptional for anything you buy from them.

Did you match up the hole spread for the replacement woofer? The reason I ask is there are a lot of configurations with woofers, and slight size variations, and it can be a challenge to get one that fits and mounts properly.

Which of those three speakers from part express you've chosen?
