Default My Daughter is Amazing!

About 8-9 years ago I gave my daughter an Esteban guitar that had been given to me. She had expressed an interest in learning guitar at the time but it didn't last too long. I hadn't yet joined this august group so my knowledge about guitars was rather stunted and beyond playing, I didn't know much about guitars except how to tune one and change the strings. Yeah I know, an Esteban was a poor guitar to give her but she liked it and I didn't need it.

Fast to about 3 days ago when she said she'd found it in and the book of chords I'd given her in the back of a closet and had begun learning to play. She found it was pretty hard to play and when she told me how high the strings were from the fretboard I knew exactly why she was having so much difficulty.

As her infant son had just gone down to sleep, I Skyped with her and told her how to establish and adjust the relief in the neck and we decided the saddle was just too "fricken" high (her term). While whispering to avoid waking my baby grandson, I told her how much to remove from the bottom of the saddle and how to do it.

As I was sitting in church the next day, she texted me that she had done it and the action was right where we figured it should be!

I couldn't help but be proud since she had really only been playing for 2 days when she did her first set up!

She's now spending her free time learning chords and has discovered a couple sites that show chords to songs she wants to learn!

I now know my guitars will be in very good hands when I'm gone.

Just wanted to share,
PJ

Very cool.

1) She wants to try and learn to play guitar, and...
2) She's not afraid to get in there an fix things herself...
3) And do it properly !

Way to go !

I'm impressed that she was willing to go through all that effort with only two days of playing under her belt.

Most people at that stage would just say "screw it" and put it back in the closet!

The amazing part is you gave her an Esteban ... and she still talks to you!

Nice story.

That is one smart woman. Anyone else would have just given up. She really wants to play.

I'm guessing the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Good job!

Time to start shopping for her next guitar. And not on Home Shopping Network.

It looks like you have 3 nice guitars at your house. Has not your wife asked you why you need 3. You can't play them all at once my wife says.

Send her one of yours. Its easier to learn on a nice guitar.

I as well.

It is cool that the young lady was willing to do a set up two day into playing guitar. I would not even attempt such a thing. I would mess up the saddle for sure.
