Default There is hope for the future

IMG_2041.jpg
Last night at a pizza place in Mt. Pleasant, SC, we were treated to an hour concert by this young man (4th grade - 9 years old) backed up by his teacher, named Scottie. He played Beetles classics on his electric guitar; he sang...he even played lead during the vocal breaks. Did you hear me say he played the Beetles? He had great stage presence, but still maintained being a kid with humility. I don't want to give his name, because of his age, and all. But if there are enough kids like this one, the future will be bright.

Always fun to see kids with good musical skills and taste! I’m hoping my little one goes that direction!

When you are raising kids you should expose them to as many activities as you can. It will soon become evident what a child likes to do and then he or she should be encouraged to pursue those activities. Some kids will decide that they like to sing and play the guitar. It is an exceptional young man who likes to sing and play in front of an audience. Good for him.

They were a Monkees cover band that didn’t last.

Ah, got it. You'd think they would've called themselves The Monkeys, and that The Beetles would've been a Beatles cover band.

I agree. It’s good to see the classics being appreciated.

And couldn’t resist - sorry!

...the sheer volume of serious young musical talent I have seen in the last couple of decades is astonishing...let’s give the parents of these young players kudos for nourishing their kids abilities instead of dissuading them like many parents did in my day.... I have a lot of hope for the future in music and many other aspects because I believe we have taught our children well...

Videos of Sierra Hull as a youngster are astonishing; the sheer amount of time she must have put in to play like that makes me wonder if she ever made it to school! It pays to be cautious using phrases like 'child prodigy', but was it ever so apt it her case! If you can't smile at this you ain't got no soul!
