Chills, Glenn! Such a full and beautiful sound all around between instrument and voice (s).
A lovely classic for a lovely personal occasion for you and your wife! As others have mentioned.....would love to see/hear your wife come out of retirement! LOL!
Happy anniversary......and wishing you well on recovery from that surgery. Careful with your playing......keep it in the classical position for a while longer!!

Best,
Fred

Great stuff Glenn. The two guitars in harmony sound outstanding as does your vocals.

Happy anniversary to you and your wife.

Well done, as always, Glenn. Someday, I want to have a studio half as good as yours and with a third of your talent.

Happy anniversary to you both! Wishing you many more.

I hope your healing process is fast and that you achieve the desired outcome from the surgery. And, happy anniversary to you and Mrs. Willow.

Best to you, Glenn,

Hi Roger,

I am so pleased that you feel this came out well! I have always loved this song! Thanks for taking time to listen and comment, Roger.

I recently bought a Dan Fogelberg "Best of ..." album and it has "Run for the Roses" on it. And having watched the Kentucky Derby on TV not long ago, that certainly piqued my interest. I did not realize he wrote that on commission. How very interesting!

I am recovering okay from the surgery. I go tomorrow to have the stitches removed. It will probably take another week or two before my knee is completely healed, but I am getting around just fine. My grandson is helping me get the grass cut!

I hope all is well for you and your family!

Hi Fred!

Well, what a compliment, to know that my music gave you the chills! Thanks so much for letting me know.

That Olson doubled like that in stereo does make a very big, expansive sound, doesn't it! And the Olson has such a warm sound, it's quite unusual. At first I didn't double the guitar, but when I was listening to the original Dan Fogelberg recording to figure out how to play the lead guitar stuff, I realized, .... Hey, he has doubled the main guitar in open G tuning!

So I immediately sat down and recorded the Olson again. I thought it might be hard getting the finger picking lined up so it wasn't a big jumble, but I had no trouble with it, just one of those lucky things. Or, the result of practicing it over and over again before recording it the first time!

And yes, it would be nice to have my wife sing with me, but she is just not going to do it. She says, "This is your thing." And she does not want to be put under any pressure over this. We did enough of that 30 years ago when we made money at this, and that was plenty.

So, I was glad I could pull off that high harmony, though it took more than a few tries. I never realized before this how high Dan Fogelberg could sing. Holy Cow!

We both feel very grateful to have lived long enough to have reached 52 years of marriage. It is a special day for us and we are enjoying it.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and words, Fred!

- Glenn

Thank you, Rene!

I appreciate your kind words of encouragement! I am really pleased that you thought this came out well.

This is a challenging song to sing, very much like "Leader of the Band." Dan Fogelberg tended to sing stuff pitched way up there! So for me, a high baritone, it takes practice to sing a song like this. So thank you for noticing!

And like you, I really love this song! And it brings back such memories for both my wife and I. In fact, all three of our children have commented to me just today that they know this song not from Dan Fogelberg but from hearing us practice and perform this song when they were little kids. That really makes me smile.

And thank you for the kind wishes on our anniversary. We both feel very lucky to have lived long enough together to have reached this milestone.

Thank you, too, for noticing the harmony singing. I was relieved, frankly, that I was able to make that work. You know how it is when you undertake a song project; there is always some self doubt about whether you can really do this.

I hope you and your family are all doing well, Rene!

- Glenn

Hi Joe!

Thanks so much! I'm so glad you thought this came out well! Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment!

The Olson does sound very expansive recorded like that, with it doubled and then panned left-right. It was a lovely surprise for me, too! Of course, I have Dan Fogelberg to thank for the idea.

Thanks, too, for the good wishes on our anniversary. I feel very fortunate!

I hope you are well, Joe! Take care!
