Picked up a CAD GXL 1200. Reviews seem pretty good too. Used for 50 bucks. Perhaps I could have gone with a higher end mic that was used, but oh well. I can upgrade when need be, and ill also learn how to care for it properly as I've heard these mics are pretty fragile. A new journey awaits!

I think you will be perfectly fine with that mic. You should be able to make very good recordings with it. No need for a higher end mic at this point.

So I received the mic tonight along with the cables. Just a quick recording to check that everything was good. Im quite impressed tbh, this mic picks up alot of things. Mic positioned about a foot away, in front of the sound hole, but facing the 7th fretboard.

Fitting for this wonderful evening on family day

The audio for this promotional video for LeLounge! Acoustic Duo was recorded with 2 x Rhode M5 condensor mics + a slight addition of direct out from the Seagull Guitar internal piezos (to add a little extra bass mainly):

Question here is, would I need 2 XLR jacks for a pair of mics or do they somehow connect to one jack?

If I'd need 2 xlr inputs, then Ill just get a single mic.

Looking at an AKG perception 170 for a single...any other budget recommendations? Max $150, and just recording basic slower paced fingerstyle songs.

Thanks!
Let us know how those mics are. I have 2 P-120's and they are good mics for how little they cost. Does the 170 come with a shock mount. I had to by shock mounts on amazon for mine. They didnt come with one or a pouch/box. Guess some of the swag has has to be left out at the price point of the P-120

You can make up shock mounts for a few bucks if you wish:

Then yes, it came with one. Forgive my lack of knowledge about these things hehe.

The P170s are sitting in a home brew shock mount. It's basically schedule 80 pvc with some slots added and glued together with pvc glue and a small piece of scrap flat pvc from the local plastic supply shop. A few #303 rubber bands and a bit of turned wood to stick in a microphone clip finishes it up. This "dedicated X-Y mount" is nice because you can move the mics around without changing their relative positions.

Very hard to top the MCA SP-1 LD cardioid condenser for $54.

This is a mic that, by its sound, should cost about $500.

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing that. I have plenty of Sch 80 and rubberbands.
