Just reduced price on similar but better model with pickup that might now fit your budget.

I was looking for this model too. I like its simplicity.
But couldn't find one used, a new one is in Britain and being Cites allergic , extra expenses and more wait time have got me re-thinking.

https://vintageandrareguitars.com/pr...ies-model-000/

Everything considered, similarity wise, I settled for a 000-EC with just a few hundred dollars more.
Now awaiting delivery..:-)

Good luck with your search.

Default 12 Fret

I prefer a plainly appointed guitar as well.

Yeah -- better is subjective; but I need a twelve fretted. Thanks for the reply.

I wonder how many were ever made. I think I only ever saw the rosewood one at Artisans and it was there forever. They recently had it in the "moving" sales for like $1700. Other than a few shops that made a few custom orders like that, that series was to only the OM and Dread. I recall a few other models getting done and some still out there (AMW has a few custom orders) but can't say I ever saw another 12 fret 000.

The Fingerboard Extension in Corvallis Oregon had a used rosewood Road Series 00 (12 fret, solid headstock) when I stopped in last week. I enjoyed playing it a lot.

Default 000 12 fret

Interesting. Didn't realize it was a small run - possibly one off - model.
If you're the current owner (hailing to the ether) and at some time wish to send it on -- please contact me!

My understanding was that Huss & Dalton produced the stripped down Road Series during an economic downturn and it was intended to maintain their staff without layoffs of their dozen or so luthiers...

I think that was true if the ones from several years ago. The ones from recent years were more an approach to offer had made quality and craftsmanship without all the labor of the embellishments and high gloss finishes. Obviously it would mean more guitars to make and keep busy, but not the main intent like the ones several years ago.

If they made one -- perhaps others. Either way I'm after one. Somehow I missed it languishing at Artisan.

There were 100 Road Series H&D's made in 2013-14, in response to the recession, and a desire by Mark and Jeff to keep their H&D staff employed by producing less expensive guitars that people could afford at the time.

50 were dreadnoughts, and 50 were 12-fret 000’s. Some mahogany/sitka, others EIR/sitka. They were a big hit at the 2014 NAMM show, resulting in orders for all 100.

I own one of the dreadnoughts, basically a stripped down version of the TD-R, but with rosewood fretboard and bridge, less expensive tuners, satin back, sides and neck, and a cheaper case. It is stellar. It gets more playing time than other guitars costing twice as much.

I'm not sure why they sound so great, but it may have something to do with how light the finish is. There were fewer trips to the spray booth for the Road Series to cut cost.

BTW, H&D reintroduced the Road Series a few years ago and are making a limited number. I have not yet played one of the reintroduced models.

Default Road Series

Thanks, Charlie1. The one I missed was a 000 at Artisan Guitars. They do a pretty good job of sound samples, and I loved it. Just wasn't quick enough on the draw. Can't seem to get to the video of that particular guitar on their site to find out the year. I'll be calling H&D today and see if they can shed some light on how many are out there.
