Default Newbie question on beginner's acoustic amp

There is a local Craig's list ad for a Kustom guitar amp - KGA10 for $25. I play acoustic -- would this amp work with it? I'm not sure the difference between acoustic amps and electric amps. For the money would it be worth it to start?

That's a small, cheap practice amp designed for use with an electric guitar.

I don't know how much money you have to spend, but this is more like the sort of thing you want to look into for getting started with amplifying an acoustic for relatively little money:

The only thing it lacks is effects--for which you could try a pedal.

One of these might also be worth a look (it is similar, not as great sounding, maybe, but it has reverb and the line has a decent reputation):

If you want something more fully featured, usable for small gigs, and into which you can plug a vocal mic, consider one of these:

Many other choices (and this is hardly exhaustive) can be found here:

What are your goals for amplifying your acoustic? Are you trying to be loud enough to play with others, are you performing and need sound reinforcement? If so, at what sorts of places are you playing (indoor/outdoor, loud/quiet audience, etc.)? Not sure what your needs are, so it is hard to help.

Playing solo in a quiet inside place.

One option is a small PA system instead of an acoustic amp, especially if your guitar has a flexible preamp built in. You might be able to find one of Kustom's acoustic amps used for a nice price, as they aren't that expensive new...

I'd try it. You may be able to sell it for 30 if it doesn't work for you. The challenge of using an electric guitar amp for an acoustic is how it's voiced especially when you kick in the distortion. Electric amps have been developed for a particular set of sounds that work best with solid bodies and magnetic pickups while acoustic pickups have been developed to work with pa systems. However, sometimes an electric guitar amp can work pretty well for an acoustic guitar, you just have to try it out... I hope this helps.
