Default TapeOp and SoundOnSound magazines

If you don't already get these magazines (actual magazines thru the mail and downloadable via on the web) check it out. Both are free to you. I have gotten both for a few years now. Recording, mixing professionals discussing their art, gear reviews, podcasts, etc. are there.

The newer reviews and many other articles at Sound on Sound are subscription based ($47.50 per year for digital/online or $60 per year print).

Mix Magazine and Electronic Musician both offer free online magazines, monthly I believe.

I've been a Tape Op "subscriber" for several years.

Coincidentally, as I'm typing this I'm listening to podcast interview with Bob Clearmountain that's available from the Tape Op website.

Their website is free to use and includes all the latest gear reviews, interviews, and how to articles. Perused their website for years. Don't even
have to log in.

Default Sound on Sound

The current (within the last year) gear reviews such as this one require a subscription to read:
https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews...-premier-ga-47
I can only see the first 10 percent of the article, so if you can read the whole article for free, please let me know how.

Current how-to articles such as this one also require a subscription:
https://www.soundonsound.com/techniq...-ambient-music

There is a lot of free content on their site, but it does not include the in-depth articles in their current print issues. See the FAQ here:

I have a professional subscription to Tape Op and really enjoy it. I've started on pro subscriptions to Mix and Recording engineer/Producer (RIP), etc. back when I started in the biz in 1980 and have since added subscriptions to Pro Sound News, Post, and Front of House. Interestingly to me, Sound on Sound is the only one I've never been able to get a pro subscription to, though I've signed up repeatedly. Another little funny: I was a pro subscriber to Electronic Musician for years but they switched my subscription into an electronic one. I value the paper form of the magazines because I stare at the stinkin' screens at my workstation all day long and want to put up my feet and get a rest when I'm gathering info from the journals. I haven't read EM since it went electronic but have tried repeatedly to switch back to print.

i like their online mag also, but, i've found this same problem. you start reading then the next thing you know, they want you to subscribe to see the rest. a lot of newspapers and magazines are doing this.
i do get the online tape op free but have given up on paper mags other than vintage guitar and fretboard journal.

play music!

Yep, last five issues partially locked. I can live with that. Ninety eight percent of what they have out there is available w/o a prescription. Usually I am looking up a review of some other piece of gear, or some interview.
