I have made a number of wave maps for my main guitar with different mics and mic positions and use the one I find most pleasing. If I get my hands on better mics I'll make new wave maps. I also have wave maps for my backup guitar and for my autoharp, which has a $7 piezo contact pickup stuck on the back. In the case of the autoharp, playing through the ToneDexter sounds far better than either playing through the pickup only or mic'ing the autoharp!

If I play, and folks hear it and like it, the job is done. If they don't hear it then I may has well not have bothered.

If they hear it and don't like it, I have a whole different kind of problem.
