Default The Hohner HG950

About 40 years ago I made a record that was produced by Peter Lang (Tacoma Label Mate with John Fahey and Leo Kottke). He brought a Hohner guitar into the studio and we used it on several tracks. After the record was done he offered to sell it to me, and I bought it.

I am wondering after all these years of the guitar's value. The characteristics are that of a high end instrument, Indian rosewood B/S, spruce top, gold hardware, maple accents. But it's a Hohner, not a Martin D-35.

Any guidance or opinions?

I've never heard of this site and don't know if it's worth the $4 they ask you to pay, but it's what I found from a quick Google search.

Welcome to the forum, 52songs.

I haven’t looked on Reverb for those Hohners, but that could be a starting point. I remember playing one in a music store and being quite impressed. They were making a move for the working musician market. In addition to your guitar, they made an ornamented version, sort of a 42. I seriously considered buying one like yours.

There were ads in 70s Guitar Player. Endorsed by the Doobie Brothers? My memory is often fuzzy

Interesting info, Jimmy. Thanks. I've started a conversation on Reverb with Tim Cusack. He has a collection of this series of Hohners.

Hi James, I would love to hear any info that you may have come across with your conversation with Tim about the Hohner HG-950 or any of the 900 Arbor series guitars. Thanks

David

I can't help you much with the guitar but here's a photo of "Peter Lang" playing a Hohner acoustic guitar. It looks like a nice guitar.

There are some AGF threads and images of 900 series Hohners. Bridgepin (David), you have a beautiful collection, if I saw correctly. These are stunning, intricately made guitars. The fingerboard inlay, purfling, rosette, b/s woods.....wow, just amazing. And I haven't even gotten to how they must sound. I would be all over one of these if they showed local. Fat chance. Were these made at Matsumoku?

Thank You so much for the complement, I can't give you a definitive answer as to the shop they were produced in other than Japan. There record keeping at this time period is so vague and unclear that I don't want to say something that may be untrue and boy have I ever logged some time in trying get to that answer.

Good day all
Does anyone here know what neck-joint the Hohner HG-950 has?
Someone is bringing me his HG-950 today for a potential neck re-set procedure.
It is important to know whether the joint is glued to enable me to steam it off...
Thank you in advance

Cazon (Pretoria, South Africa)

Sigh.

Thank you David.
I suspected that it was. Turned out the neck angle was spot-on though and no need for a reset.
Regards,
Zohn
