Tuner Buttons
I got the tuner buttons finished last night. I match the button sets to the guitars individually. Now this picture may seem a little out of order, but when I do them really has more to do with when I am able to sweet talk the lovely Mrs. Hatcher into sitting around for a couple hours helping me polish little buttons!

Top Purfling
Like the tuner buttons I cut my purfling sticks as I build the guitar. This gives me a better opportunity to match the colors I want to the specific guitar. Here I'm doing the first cut from a Cocobolo board that has all the colors of the rosette.
The binding is glued up with a strip of teflon which gets pulled out. That leaves the space to insert the cross grain purfling sticks. Did I already say this is my favorite little plane? Here it is all cleaned up. I'm very happy with the color match! Thanks for checking it out!

Hi Jazz,
Yes that is a Lie Nielsen plane. Also, I'll throw in a little baggie of these very shavings if you buy this guitar-- at no extra charge! Thanks

Here are some pictures of the body all cleaned up with the binding done.
So tell me what you think! From here I'll be moving onto the neck. Thank-you for viewing

Starting the Neck
I like to have a laminate strip up the middle of the neck. This is the rough cut neck getting glued up
To keep the consistency of the cross grain top purfling I run a cross grain strip up the middle of the neck laminate Here I am flattening the top of the neck where the fretboard will be glued on. I'm using a tool room granite plate that has a bilateral accuracy of plus or minus .0001" total instrument runout. I also use this 75lb piece of flat granite for getting perfectly straight edges for joining the top and bottom tonewood pieces. It's a handy tool to have in the shop. Thanks!

Opinions on a heel cap?
Here's a couple options I have for the heel cap. The ebony is the more traditional. The Cocobolo takes the sapwood out a little further.
Keep in mind that the Mahogany neck will be a lot darker once it's finished. Also, there will be black-white-black lines between the heel and the cap. Which do you prefer? Thanks
