Default Maple Jumbo

Who else makes a maple small jumbo like the Gibson J-185 or the Collings SJ?

I don’t know if they’re still making it, but I had a Guild GAD small jumbo in maple that I really liked.

I owned a maple Huss & Dalton MJ Custom - very similar specifications with the Collings SJ.

Lightly built and super responsive but I found a 1 3/4" nut just a tad too wide for me.

Iris make a AB model with J-185 like specifications - available in Maple.

The AB Model is our third model in the Iris Guitar Company line-up. Introduced in 2020, It’s modeled on the J-185 and would be considered a small jumbo.
Dimensions

Body Length: 20-3/8”
Total Length: 41”
Lower Bout: 16-1/8”
Upper Bout: 11-3/8”
Waist: 9-3/8”
Depth: 4-5/8”

Seagull PERFORMER CUTAWAY MINI-JUMBO FLAME MAPLE EQ

I just got a Gibson J-165 that's pretty doggone nice; no longer in production but do run across them on occasion.

J165 is much smaller than a Jumbo. Like a OO.

J-200 - 17"
J-185 - 16"
J-165 - 15" not exactly tiny.

Taylor made what they called the 'GS maple' through the early 2000's. As the name implies, is the Grand Symphony body shape, maple B/S with a spruce top. A beautiful and great sounding guitar (I own a 2006 with a lovely 3 piece back).

Takamine has the GJ72CE. Spruce top, Maple back and sides. In 6 and 12 string versions.

They are not small. But if they were small they wouldn't be a jumbo.

Good suggestion, the Grand symphony is the 2nd biggest Taylor body - 16 1/4" lower bout with 4 5/8" body depth.

The biggest Taylor is the Grand Orchestra with 16 3/4" lower bout and 5" body depth.

I believe Kevin Kopp builds a J-185 style small jumbo.

The used market is a good place to look for Westerly built Guild maple archback jumbos. I just picked up a GF30. They have around a 16” lower bout. Pretty rare though, less than 1000 made. The JF30 on the other hand are more common. 17” lower bout. People seem to really like them.

Not sure of the exact dimensions, but I would definitely include the 618 in the Jumbo category. If only Taylor offered a stock version without the electronics.

Taylor’s 600 series is typically maple.
