Default Israel Kamakawiwoʻole

Have you uke players checked out the Google Doodle today? It's terrific! Celebrating what would have been his 61st birthday.

https://www.google.com.
And an article about him from London.

Default best Google doodle ever

Google's doodle today is a tribute to Iz's b'day.

Super nice.

I can't make it through his rendition of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" without breaking down. Possibly the single most moving piece of music I've ever heard.

Don't limit yourself to Bruddah Iz's version of "Rainbow" only, although it is one of my favorites to perform. There are plenty of other lovely songs that he did. "White Sandy Beach" (written about seeing his departed parents in a dream) is nice too.

The wonderful world part, as an aging parent, hits hard. The over the rainbow part is the "spoon full of sugar". Definitely one of those "where did he come up with that" events.

I used to play him on YouTube when my then infant daughter got super cranky. He never failed to soothe both of us. Haha. Great talent.
