Default Dream NGD and lockdown album release.

High everyone, I've been a quiet but regular visitor here and I've picked up lots of invaluable advice. So thanks for that. I wanted to share the very recent arrival of my dream guitar and the release of my first album in over 30 years.

But firstly, my new number 1. It's a 2013 Bourgeois Age Tone Mahogany D, Addi top, hide glue and all the trimmings. It cost me a very nice Collings C10 Deluxe in a trade but I couldn't be happier. I love the warm, rich and very balanced tone. I really just can't put it down.

Here it is with its wee brother, a slightly fuzzy Bourgeois Custom OM, with Sitka top.

Today is also a great day to buy an album on bandcamp, as they've agreed to waive their fees today to help bands. We're based in Edinburgh, in Scotland and our self-funded, self released album 'Shorting Out and Longing' has just made its debut on the European Americana charts, nestling behind Jason Isbell at number 10. It was recently described as "An excellent listen with its heritage sound of REM-like jangled glistening pop." Kind of electric guitar overall, played by 'Miracle Legion' guitarist Ray Neal, but I play quite a bit of acoustic on it too - the leads were all on the Bourgeois OM and the chord stuff on the Collings C10.

Here's a promo of the opening track. If any of you do download it, I hope you enjoy the album even just a fraction as much as I'm enjoying my new dread.

Congrats on the new Bourgeois also!

A new guitar and a new album...congratulations!

I only learnt recently that, even under normal circumstances, Bandcamp passes the majority of the funds for each album to the musicians, and normally takes only a 10-15% fee - https://bandcamp.com/pricing.

What an admirable (and rare) approach.

Thanks guys. It’s been quite a lockdown for me. As well as the album and dream guitar, my wife retired from her job yesterday and to top everything by some distance (yes, even the fabulous Bourgeois! ), my son and his gal, who live with us, had a gorgeous baby boy in the middle of it all. So it’s been eventful but pretty cool so far.

Hope you’re all staying safe and your loved ones too. And thanks again for the kind words regarding the music. It really is appreciated.

Congrats to you on both the album and the guitar!

Coincidentally, I own a 2014 Bourgeois Mahogany D, and also sacrificed a Collings in order to make the deal. No regrets. I loved my D2H but Dana's neck shape and the 1 & 23/32" nut width on my Mahogany D are perfect for my old hands and wrists.

Thanks! I'm moving steadily towards folk rock too. Next one might be just acoustic instruments. Despite being a late starter in the acoustic world, I'm really loving it.
