Steve, I just need "one more!" Out of all of Greenfield's apprentices, Gage is the only one who went off to build on his own. His work is pretty impressive!

Thanks for his base price! I loved your Halland thead which also piqued my curiosity!

Not sure if ABW is getting more popular these days? I've been loving that combo since 2004

Gage sent me a studio shot teaser

It is a great opportunity I was able to work out with Gage! I might have a commission coming up so I wanted to check a few things out

I'm actually testing driving for a potential commission. Also will be fun to compare in person with other world class luthier built African Blackwod guitars

Wow--very elegant and stunning.

And whatever that subtle blue purfling is--it's pretty cool too!

Love the subtle use of the sapwood on the back of your new one. Looking forward to more images, particularly of Jimmi’s inlay work.

And if you ever get tired of that Wingert F……!

Over the years I have played a number of Kathy's guitars in African Blackwood and they were all winners. Congratulations on three really stunners there, ericcsong!

Best,

Hello Jamie l, it is actually still up for grabs because Eric is receiving it in order to consider for a future build.

Torture. Alas, I cannot commit to yet another guitar right now. I am in deep, and my spouse has limits to her patience. I really would like to have a Halland, and this one is a knockout. Maybe it will for some inexplicable reason not get purchased for a bit, and I will have a chance.

An alternative is to lodge a deposit in and put yourself on the build list. Then you can spec out a Halland that will fit the budget better because this one clearly had most options specified.

I has originally posted to suggest you could alternatively join the build list instead of purchasing this spanking new dc-h but having read your post again that that may attract too much spousal collateral damage, I thought better of my suggestion ! LOL

Kathy's African Blackwood guitar is phenomenal in every way. I feel that strongly about my Ryan Cathedral too. Can't wait to compare it to the Halland

The Halland should get here tomorrow! But then I should wait 24 hours before opening to be safe. Saturday can't come soon enough!

The fun part will be playing them side by side with two World Class Luthier built Instruments of the same woods (African Blackwood/Euro Spruce).

The Ryan Cathedral is the oldest of the bunch (2006) and it my most versatile guitar. It has a tremendous deep cavernous bass that only a Cathedral has. Add African Blackwood to that mix and you get a fatter, more rounder bass. I like to think of it like dark chocolate. If you don't like dark chocolate, sorry for the bad analogy!

Ryan Specs:
Overall length: 42”
Body length: 20.75"
Upper bout: 11"
Lower bout: 16.60"
Depth at head block: 3.8”
Depth at Tail block: 4.8”
Scale length: 25.7"

The Wingert F is a 2008 and also is truly amazing. It also has the rich/thick harmonics and very beefy/round notes like the ABW Cathedral.

Wingert Specs:
Body length: 20"
Upper bout: 11 7/8"
Lower bout: 16"
Body depth: 4 7/8"
Scale length: 25.4"

The Halland has the same length lower bout as the Wingert (Ryan 0.6 wider) and a slightly thinner upper bout and body depth. It will be very fun to compare the three!

Halland Specs:
Overall length: 40 7/8"
Body length: 20"
Upper bout: 11 3/4"
Waist: 9 3/4"
Lower bout: 16"
Body depth: 4 5/8"
Scale lengths: 660mm - 25"
(Bass to treble)

and some more pics of the Halland:
