I think you'll find the current Behringer analog mixers are just fine. I have an XR18 digital mixer as my primary and an X1204USB analog mixer as my backup and both do a great job. Both have built-in effects and both allow for USB recording. They are overkill for most of my needs, but there are smaller, less-expensive versions of both.
