I much prefer the smaller pickguard too, especially for the 000-18 and 00-28 (too big).
I played a small boatload of Martins in shop today, and was reminded once again and more than ever before, that no matter what the specs - 12 fret, 14 fret, woods, nut width (I appreciate variety in that department) etc., that each instrument should be considered on its own particular merits and weaknesses, because there is quite a wide spread in performance among them. |

OCD runs deep and strong around here...
I actually think it looks kinda nice, for a change. Taylor used to use a pickguard very much like that one on their original Dan Crary model cutaway dread, and I always thought it looked fantastic. duff Be A Player...Not A Polisher Last edited by Kerbie; 09-13-2019 at 01:42 PM. It would take about ten minutes to remove that pickguard and put the correct one on the guitar. It’s no big deal, I replaced the pixelated-pepperoni-guards on three Martins with Tortis/Delmar - easy peasy, and they look so much better.
I’ve also seen Martin OMs (including an OM-28 Marquis) that had OOO-shape pickguards factory-fitted. There’s nothing new under the sun... The usual disclaimers apply......IMHO, YMMV etc.

it's just a custom model.
Only the price is wrong. Add 599$ and everything will be all right |

Apparently it's diesel too, I thought it would at least be unleaded gas or even hybrid.
Nah, I wouldn't buy it

I agree, I actually like the look. More wood less plastic.

I’m with Zoopeda on this one. That should NEVER have been allowed out of the factory that way. There was more than ample opportunity to catch that. Similarly, SW should have corrected that in-house or sent it back before posting on their website.
Martin buyers are staunchly traditionalist. No tiny pickguards allowed on dreads!

My guess is that it's on its way back to Nazareth, PA.

That's not an OM pick-guard. These are OM pick-guards;
So that's a smaller pick-guard than you are used to seeing. You don't like it. Someone else will. It's not a mistake, it's just different. |

You know, if that was indeed a QC glitch, it does raise questions. Sure, the pickguard isn’t going to make a lick of difference with respect to the sound, but if they’re missing such big and obvious things, could they be showing inattention to other points in the process? I don’t think that that’s nothing. It’s a reasonable question.
