Default Hand and Finger Care

My left forefinger is swollen a bit and very painful from the many hours, I assume, of building with hand tools. Tried to rest it with no change. I can kinda play to test out guitars with the 3 remaining fingers but am quite concerned.

Any advice, experience with painful fingers out there?

Thank You

ICE it and try an inflammation reducer (ibuprofen).

Unfortunately, yes. Try to rest more as well.

I'm experiencing something similar after I fell in a staircase some months ago. Not excruciatingly painful, but it wouldn't go away. So after 3 months I finally decided to see my physiotherapist who diagnosed two ripped ligaments on the right side of my left annular finger.

I've waited too long before I began proper treatment to expect a fast recovery, and had I waited any longer it might never have begun to heal so my advice is see a professional as soon as possible.

If rest doesn't fix it you likely need physical therapy. I've had this and there are exercises that help get things back in order. It's best to have an expert look at it so they can determine exactly what in your hand is inflamed and what will relieve it.

That seems to be a good advice.

I had a swollen left hand for about 12 years. Lots of specialists and no answers. I went on a low carb diet to reduce weight and blood sugar and the swelling disappeared.

My hands do get stiff from woodworking. Playing fingerstyle banjo helps mine.

Glad you got it dealt with and can we assume this malady lead to the choice of your forum user name?

My finger is now starting to 'trigger' and 'trigger finger' is something I've dealt with on other fingers in the past with a cortisone shot healing it up Ok. Will visit the doc this coming week for a diagnosis and the anticipated cortisone shot.
