I ADMIt I didnt read all this thread. So sorry if the questions were asked.
I love the choice of woods and trim and know Olson will treat a masterpiece. But I am curious why no cutaway. And why no end pin? And why no pickup? Have to be reasons but i don't know them. Thanks. |

I don't need a cutaway and I prefer the looks of a non-cutaway guitar.
I don't need it. I don't need it. |

None of my acoustics have end pins or pickups either. I have grown fond of cutaways however!

I think I might have a couple of end pins. Maybe on my Circa and Schoenberg? You can tell that I use them all the time. Ha ha!
This guitar is so cool, Mau. Thanks for continuing to post sound clips.

Guess I haven't used an end pin in years. Yet, I'd be unhappy if suddenly I wanted to strap up and there wasn't one there. Is there a tonal change having one? Any negative to having it?

Holy cow. Now that's what I call a guitar player. A perfect fit of a master instrument and a master player. Thanks for sharing.

A secondary issue which really has to be considered is - resale. I know we all buy them for a lifetime but do we really keep them for a lifetime? Cutaway, endpin and PU are all pluses on the resale market it seems. Or maybe I'll learn differently. And I'm pretty sure the OP isn't passing on these things out of cost reduction. People who order Olsons usually order what they want. |

There's a huge negative in having an end pin in this case and I've already mentioned it: I don't like it. Quote:

Secondly, the vast majority of acoustic guitars have no cutaway. And looking at Jim's last 3-4 batches, about two thirds of his guitars were non-cut. So no, a cutaway is not a plus on the resale market either. Bingo. There goes the answer to all of your questions. |

Actually my Olsons are the only guitars in my collection that are "virgin". Bruce Petros builds with an end pin by default and my other guitars are production models from Martin and Gibson. |

Hey, don't get perturbed Mau, there is a discussion going on in the general forum on how many latches are on guitar cases....
Can the moderators delete a thread just to save us all from embarrassment??? Cigarfan, anyone??????

End pins aren't so bad actually. I find strap buttons much more visually offensive... Thank you, Ernie. The guitar is terrific for sure and I couldn't imagine not having my Olsons around. |

I am very perturbed, Tom -- but perhaps not as much as when you were obsessing about the tonal impact of tuning machines, pearl inlays and plastic binding.

When I was obsessing about the tonal impact of tuning machines, pearl inlays, and plastic binding? When was that? I don't recall that at all...
