I love his playing too, but why is this discussion taking place here? Did he play some acoustic of which I am unaware? If so, I imagine it would be as great as his electric stuff.

I also believe he played some acoustic on the Hunky Dory album. I don't recall him playing acoustic when I saw him solo in the 80s. IIRC, he only played a Telecaster that night. But it was a long time ago. |

Your are right eatswodo. I was thrown off by this site's name Acoustic Guitar Forum but now I do see the Electric Guitar sub-forum. I did see Ronson on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust tour and loved his playing.

He played a lot of acoustic with David before Ziggy Stardust. He's all over the acoustic on Hunky Dory, esp such songs as the leads on "Andy Warhol" and "The Bewlay Brothers."
He also played acoustic on two of the earlier albums as well. No question he is best remembered as an electric slayer, but we must remember that people as diverse as Buddy Holly, Kurt Cobain, Neil Young, Clapton, and even Hendrix did play acoustic as well as electric. sm |

Who's a Mick Ronson Fan?
For me it was the guitar work and the solo on The Prettiest Star . Just walking into school the following day and talking about it all day and then realising that there was an Album full of the same work was overwhelming . Ah those were the days

Veeing, a fair question.
From what I've seen, a lot of people under 40 are unaware of Ronson. My take anyway. scott |

I know this is flame worth and you're probably right, but a long, long, time ago, I saw a Bowie concert late one night on TV where Jeff Beck was a guest guitarist. He traded licks with Mic Ronson for several songs and I though Mic wiped the floor with him.

I was just telling a younger guy the other day -- too young to know about early Bowie -- what a phenomenal tone-chaser Mick was. There are very few guitarists IMHO who have such distinctive tone that you know right away who it is. Mick was one of them.

One of the first Glitter/Glam rock gods to hit the scene. And with the skills to back up the look! He and Bowie were an unbelievable pair of front men when they worked together.

He was great. Really brought the power to Bowies early 70s music. Folks who like Mick's playing might also enjoy Billy Zoom of X. He was another no-nonsense non-flashy player who was also a consumate virtuoso in a low-key way.
