I much preferred football, particularly pro football when it was played without instant reply. Sure, there were bad calls made, and sometimes those calls impacted the final result. But those instances were rare.
What we have now is a game that has evolved into one where even the referees are unsure of what constitutes a penalty. And they operate under the enormous pressure of every call being scrutinized by instant replay. I think so far this year I may have watched 4 quarters of NFL football,or close to it. The game has pretty much list me for good. Just as MLB did years ago.

I hear ya, AE. The Pats/Dolphins game although not enjoyable for us Patriots fans will be a memorable game for years to come ... just not in a positive way since we lost. Still, that's what sports is about - those exciting unbelievable finishes, win or lose.

“The NFL is becoming unwatchable”
That’s what DVRing is for...watch actual play time in 12 minutes...skip the ads and nonsense.

I work (volunteer) the downs box at all my local high school teams' varsity home games. We work the visitor side, so we are wading through a new set of players and coaches every week. I love the game and the whole litany of benefits associated with local competition. However, i still have a question about this thread:

It's been off my watch list for at least 20 years. |

I stopped watching when the Rams moved out of StL and back to LA. Not because of the players or the game but the NFL and Stan Kroenke. Both care only about the $$ and nothing else.
So my "loss" is ManyMartinMan's gain. I haven't watched 10 minutes of NFL foorball in 3 yrs and don't miss it even a bit. |

All of the injuries have finally done me in. I no longer watch football at all.
Once a fan, but no longer. |
