All of my acoustics are dreads and all are strung with Gryphon's Light Gauge Phosphor Bronze strings.

My Martin OODB (all Mahogany OO size) came with Monel and I stayed there.
I guess I could try some coated D’Addario but did not try yet.

I found the Martin OOO-15 I once owned to sound muffled with D’Addario EJ, though.

So, I feel you will have to make your on trials.

Martin retro 11's are a good match on my Waterloo. They feel a bit lighter though than standard 11's in PB or 80/20 so I might try a set of 12's next.

Don't have an all hog right now but I like Sunbeams, Monels and 80/20 in combination with mahogany. I usually use 11's, sometimes 12's.

To me it depends on the guitar. Are we talking about mahogany-topped guitars exclusively? If so, I don’t belong in this discussion, as I don’t own one of those. What I do own is a Martin D-18, which I string with John Pearse 80/20 bluegrass gauge strings. I also own a cedar-topped Tacoma Papoose, which I string with John Pearse phosphor bronze strings extra light.

Both of those guitars have mahogany backs and sides.

I've never owned a all mahogany dread, but the all mahogany Streetmaster 000-15 sounded great with the John Pearse 600L Phosphor Bronze lights that I use on all my guitars.

Add another vote for the Martin Retros. I love them on my D-15, and use .13s, whether the straight mediums or the Tony Rice Bluegrass version.

They're not bright enough for my D-18 but I love them with the 15. And I totally agree about a break in period before they stabilize and settle in.

Don't own an all mahogany dread but use D'Addario PB XT 12's on my Yairi FYM66HD OM.
