That is intriguing. I'll be interested to hear more.

That access hole is HUGE!

Yes, the Preamp hole was on the one thing that almost made me decide not to get it. There are some LR Baggs Anthems that are side mounted that might work for me. Otherwise I will either have to get creative with a sound port or improve my woodworking skills. I'll enjoy the challenge. I'm not sure that the hole is that big or the body is just not that deep. I'll know when it arrives.

Got it today. She's pretty. First thing I did was take the truss rod cover off. It has a nut and not an allen. I knew it to be real but just wanted to check anyway. It has 11/32 peg holes and my tuners are 10mm so I can't string it up. Looks like it might have sported an ETune since there are no screw holes around the peg holes. Plus smudges left behind show it too. Any advice for enlarging peg holes would be appreciated. So far I am planning to follow the run the drill backwards advice that I've seen on some videos.

Do you have any background on it?

The only "acoustic Les Paul" that I've ever heard of was a custom-shop solid-body Les Paul that didn't have magnetic pickups, only piezo.

Well, that and the Epiphone "Les Paul" ukulele, which doesn't really count.

I'd love to hear more about it!

IMG_6750.jpgHey Mike. The story that I got was that this was made as a 2014 Les Paul Acoustic Prototype that never went to production. I thought it was very much like a J-185 but that was going by shape. I contacted the seller and he relayed that Gibson contracted with an Electronics firm in Silicon Valley to develop a sound system and sent them a handful of guitars. Eventually, funding was pulled and what they sent them were in various states of disrepair including this one but it was the best. The hardware was all removed and the contract liquidation outfit sold the guitars. I'm fairly sure these were made just for the Les Paul development. The body is not as deep as my J185 measuring only 3.5 inches at the butt. The lower bout is 14.75 inches. Mostly I just wanted it for the history behind it but I want to make it playable. The neck and bridge look brand new with no wear. I'm not sure what they were doing at the sound hole end of the fretboard but there was some modification going on there. Maybe a humbucker or under neck pickup.? Do you think I hould fix this up cosmetically or leave it as part of the story?

Look like there was a pickup at the fretboard end. The hole was probably for the lead wires to pass through. Imho.
Cool find!
