I think Ford's F150 Lightening is a real bellwether product, because it will show whether American drivers really want electric vehicles or whether they're just having a lust-affair with Tesla.

It is certainly tragic for anyone who has suffered a loss due to aggressive driving behavior.. and my condolences ....

The behavior is problem,,, the vehicle is mostly irrelevant IMO.

The absolute most egregious and dangerous behavior I have ever experienced ( where I was 1 ft. away from being struck at 70mph) while ridding my bicycle well into the 3 ft paved shoulder of highway in front of my house,,, was and older Subaru Outback. Where the driver moved over the white line into the shoulder to buzz me about at about one ft. away and honked

That's a very good point, haven't thought of that. The F150, being the #1 truck forever, is about as good a measure as we could get. I just wish they would make them smaller! And cheaper. Sheesh, trucks are out-of-control high priced.

My beef on modern trucks is their size. It is insane how big they are. Compare my 2008 Nissan Titan to a 2022 truck. I, especially, detest the modern height. There just isn't any need for it far as I can tell other than marketing... "bigger is better." I don't want to have to CLIMB into a pickup. Just about every manufacturer is doing this, maybe all of them. I have not looked at a 2022 Titan to see how big they are. You can buy a smaller model (such as Nissan has the Frontier), yes, but I'd prefer just a normal size 1/2 ton like we've had for decades.
Have you considered the Rivian as an alternative to Tesla ? Not as stealth looking but still modern https://rivian.com/r1t

And smaller if you are looking for something smaller than a full size truck.

The Rivian has been receiving very positive reviews from knowledgable sources:

But, we have yet to see the company's most important product -- the 'last mile' delivery van that Amazon has ordered.

But unfortunately blaming the size, type, or look, of the vehicle involved, or suggesting the size/type/look is the cause of or contributory to the behavior, is simply flawed cause and effect logic.

The behavior is problem,,, the vehicle is in fact irrelevant.

The absolute most egregious and dangerous behavior I have ever experienced ( where I was 1 ft. away from being struck at 70mph) while ridding my bicycle well into the 3 ft paved shoulder of highway in front of my house,,, was and older Subaru Outback. How illogical would it be to suggest that 70's era Subaru Outbacks contribute too aggressive behavior towards bicyclists ?
You are correct of course. I wouldn't be surprised if age were a factor on these aggressive drivers. I know that the insurance companies feel so.

Dan Neil of the WSJ said the same thing today and gave it rave reviews.
Ford done good. This might be very huge for them as they try to win over converts. I want one!

Today's news mentions a price hike when orders open up again. When they open up orders again is a ??? but my boss says his is due in October.

Our plan to redevelop a property and being empty nesters in 2 weeks had me consider pickups again but I keep coming up with no for short-term decisions. It's mid-August and I don't think I've spent $1000 yet on renting something when I need it, and am still really fond of our van. I don't want to drive something so large most of the time.

If there were an EV ute (used to be El Caminos, Rancheros in US) I might think differently. I did read Ford has trademarked names for a likely Maverick and Ranger EV.
