Default Guitar Camps - what is left for the season?

I know it is kind of late in the summer to be looking for a guitar camp. But, over the past few months I feel like I have been making some progress with my playing - ironically since I stopped my weekly lessons. Especially my confidence in my ability to learn, which, I am figuring out, is where it all starts. And I'd really like to continue the momentum with an emersive experience. I feel like I am now ready for that after three years of playing.

My interests are traditional blues and other Americana, but I'd also like to start learning some flatpicking as well. I don't have any interest in weekly lessons again, and figure that a deep dive at a camp would give me the fundamentals which I could then work on.

I have looked at the Alaska Guitar Camp - in fact, for the past few years. But the pandemic killed my plans two years ago. And last year, I had other commitments. The guitar gurus this year are Mary Flower, Tim May (Flatpicking Essentials author) and Eric Lugosh (National Fingerstyle Champ). Now, I have have come to learn that the best players are not necessarily the best teachers. But these folks do seem to have some teaching cred. Any personal learning experience with any of them would be greatly appreciated. As would any other program suggestions.
Thanks, mates.
David

Not sure what's available at the moment but have you looked into Fur Peace Ranch?

Default Guitar Camps - what is left for the season?

You might want to check out the Moab Folk Camp that’s in early November. Has some guitar classes as well as songwriting and other instruments. Check their website for what they are scheduling for 2022.
There is also the Yosemite Songwriting Camp in October and they have some guitar classes as well. I don’t know of any solely guitar camps other than the Alaska Camp this late in the year.
Best,
Jayne

I'd also highly recommend Fur Peace Ranch, but I know they are sold out for the season already.

Seems they transitioned to virtual camps out of necessity for the past couple of years, and haven't really committed to full time in-person yet, which is a shame. It is such an excellent experience, and really, being there and interacting with the instructors and especially fellow students really is the highlight. And the dining is amazing, too.

Pretty amazing to finish dinner and walk out onto the patio and hear Jorma playing "Waiting for a Train"....

We're heading to the Great Lakes Music Camp in Michigan in early October.

Dave, I checked it out, but there is no information regarding the instructors. Any idea who they are?
Thanks for the suggestions.

Scroll to the bottom of the page. Ross Martin, duo partner to Grant Gordy is teaching, as well as some other great players including Joe Newberry.

Great line up this year.

M,
So weird that did not come up on the page I accessed yesterday.
Cheers, mate.

I’m going to the Bill Monroe Mandolin Camp at the end of September. It’s obviously a bluegrass camp and while the name says Mandolin, they also have guitar, banjo, bass and vocals classes. It’s in Abingdon VA, just over the line from Bristol TN.

A couple of weeks ago a forum member asked about Martin Taylor retreats in the Play and Write subforum, but didn’t get any responses:

Anyone been to Martin Taylor Retreat (or similar)

Has anyone been to one of those?
