Default Ernie Ball Silk & Steel

On Sir wales recommendation, I put on a new set of Ernie Ball Earthwood Silk & Steel Bronze 80/20 "soft" -Gauges .011 .015 .022 .030 .042 .052
Guitar = RainSong H DR1000
I was very pleased with the Warm Clean articulate sound. The Sustain is nice. Pull-offs and Bends are very nice to the ear.
I was concerned about the light gauge compared to the 12-54's but they don't feel much different.
I haven't used Phosphor bronze for some time as I find they over-ring on my Rainsong.
I like these Silk & steel so far. we'll see after about 30 hours of handling how the sound.

Have you tried the GHS Silk & Bronze MLs (12-54)? I put a set on my Shorty (sounds painful, doesn't it?) a couple of days ago. The sound is very nice, perhaps a hair less loud than "real steel" strings, but if I need really loud, I plug in or mic it, anyway.

I've recently been through: JP pure nickles, which I liked a lot, then the Martin retros, which I liked less and found quite stiff to play.

Now I've permanently moved to silk & bronze strings. The Ernie Ball 11s or the JP 12s.

They really warm up my guitar and the strings are more flexible so my right hand doesn't get so tired playing those Mississippi John Hurt songs. They don't project as much as the JP nickles but its only a small difference.

But I'm a fingerpicking blues player only; I hardly strum and never flat pick so could be that they're just good for this type of playing.

3 days in and I have a Complaint similar to the Retro Lights.
An occasional hallway type echo howl of the open A string.
The other issue, is they seem to be more pitchy that the 12-54's.
I have about 4 hours playing time on them, and I spend more time tweaking the gears than I've noticed on the 12-54's.
Still the sound is good. (once I get that tuning balance)
