Default Fender quality ?

This is disappointing. Brand new Pro II Telecaster, and it looks like a new hire was given the spray gun. This is CLEARLY NOT stain uptake difference, but POOR application of stain. This is a brand new guitar, if a brand new series, from an authorized dealer.

The guitar is a gem to play, weighs 6 lbs, and sounds great. But I cant help but think there should be some discount for such sloppy workmanship.

In any other time/place that would be a factory second and priced accordingly - FWIW Fender's not alone in this regard among USA makers...

Welcome to the new normal...

How much would it bother you? I sent pics to the dealer, and will see what they offer to make it right. Im not bothered enough to return (shipping hassle) and demand a refund, but dont feel like I got a factory first quality. Would a $200 discount suffice?

my vintage modified 51 looks like they ran out of spray paint- LOL, i liked the guitar and just kept it, looks like 1/2 is painted in solid, the other 1/2 in semi-solid!

I think it is acceptable variation due the guitar being made of wood with all of its variation. I believe the darker color is due to torification and not stain.

You will always see that. You say it won’t bother you, but it probably will...

Wow, that’s bad. I could never accept that.

Yeah, the more I see it, the more Im comin around to your way of thinking. Well, Ill see what the dealer offers. I’m thinking a 250 discount, and I would accept a store credit. Is that reasonable IYO?

The real issue here is Fender USA letting this out the door, and the dealer accepting it and passing it along. But as mentioned, this may be the new norm...

Perhaps they could have the guy who did that flogged. However, I doubt they'll give you a discount.

Obviously it’s entirely up to you man, but I look at that and react not well...lol...I’m fairly particular about guitar purchases, but I don’t think one has to be very particular to immediately see how ridiculous this is...It’s bad...

It’s one thing having a nick or 2 to go along with other mojo marks that will naturally go on over time, but that’s not mojo....That’s just silly and unacceptable...plain and simple...It really is shocking that they let that out the door...

And then there’s the fact that the dealer knowingly sent that out to you...I would send it right back to them and immediately go elsewhere...If they could send that out without informing you, what else is in their business repertoire? God only knows...Bad form...The fact you were not informed is the worst part of it...

I keep instruments for a long time, so I make sure I’m happy with my purchases, that I got what I paid for, etc...Because I’m in it for the long haul saving a couple hundred bucks would save me nothing in the long run due to the price my OCD tendencies and sense wrong and right would end up charging me...lol

I wish you well...Let us know what you do...I wouldn’t let them get away with that...Get the next one...There will always be a guitar to buy...

Cheers

Personally, it would bother me enough to exchange it. I know you don't want to, but I think it would be enough to send it back.

That seems pretty unlikely, but good luck. I suspect they'll offer to have you send it back on their dime, give you another from stock, then sell yours as B stock/demo and knock $40-$50 off. That's the "everybody wins" scenario.

I have never, and I mean never, seen anything like it on a Fender guitar. (Every Fender MIM/USA guitar I've picked up has been top quality).

If it was me, I'd return it for the exact same guitar no matter the hassle or get a quote to get fixed and get a refund because it would continue to bother me the way it is. (I'd keep looking at it no matter how well it played).
