wireless pair of stero speakers - I'm clueless...
I wish (and maybe there is) there was such a thing as a pair of high fidelity
wireless powered stereo speakers that would play audio emitted from my iphone. I've googled for such a thing numerous times over the years, and did so again yesterday. There's been things like Klipsch's "The Three", but it is just one cabinet. I bet it sounds good, but I wonder about stereo separation, for example the guy walking across the room on a Pink Floyd album... https://www.klipsch.com/products/the-three-ii There stuff like Klipsch's "The Five", audio gets sent to them wirelessly, but they have to be connected to each other with a wire... https://www.klipsch.com/products/the...wered-speakers I wish there was some set of great sounding speakers I just plug one into a receptacle on this side of the room, another into a receptacle on the other side of the room and send music to them from my iphone and have it sound and work like it was a good old-fashioned stereo. Perhaps there'd have to be something associated with the speakers I'd have to set my phone in... that would be fine... Maybe stuff like I want exists and I just don't know about it, or maybe there's good reasons it doesn't exist. Seems like the wifi in my house (if bluetooth isn't good enough) would be able to support the traffic... There's lots of sources for good quality digital music now, what got me thinking about it again was seeing the remastered downloads of Neil Young albums on his site that we've had some threads on here lately... -Mike |

I’ve had Klipsch, Bose and JBL systems over the years and while SONOS might not provide quite the same level of audio output, I think they are excellent and make me happy. The system is simple and pretty bulletproof, while delivering high quality sound that is very easy to add to. Check out the videos. |

https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/five.html "Pair two speakers and each smartly adjusts to mono for more detailed stereo separation and an even wider soundstage." I'm not sure how to make the music quit coming out of my iphone and start coming out of the speakers? Is "apple airplay" what does that? I long ago digitized all my CDs and mostly that is what I used on my ipod. Yesterday I transferred all of it over to my iphone from my linux laptop in a way that didn't involve any itunes-like programs. Now when I look in "files" there's a bunch of directories named after artists and those directories contain directories named after albums and the album directories contain m4a files that have songs in them. When I drill down to a song and mash the button, the song plays, and then I have to manually pick another song to play it, so that's a down-side. I can probably point some app at the directory where everything is contained (apple airplay? Ida know...) and it will "randomly" pick songs or play whole albums and keep going. Apps like itunes seem to have evolved towards streaming off of spotify or something since way back when I used it on windows on my home computer. I've just managed my songs for my ipod and on my computer with the linux app "rhythmbox" for some number of years now. Perhaps there's some way for my linux laptop to send music to some sonos-like solution? I don't care if the music source is my iphone or my laptop, they're both sitting right here ... -Mike |

What you want is two Sonos Play:5 speakers connected together as a stereo pair.

As for AirPlay, it’s an option on your iPhone to “cast” what is currently playing to something other than the phone. That is how you “send” the audio from the phone to the Sonos speakers.

Yep... agreed. For the money the Sonos Play 5s are excellent. They don't compare to my standard "hi-fi" floor speakers, but they're easily worth the cost.

The other thing that is nice is when you subscribe to services like Apple Music or Amazon Music (for example) you can play virtually any song or album that has ever been recorded. You can set up favorite radio channels, albums, artists, songs, etc. as SONOS favorites. The SONOS App is very intuitive. Here’s a screenshot of the SONOS menu page I have set up. Of course you are only seeing a very small part of it. You can scroll down or sideways for more selections of what I’ve established as My SONOS Favorites. Yep, we have a house full of Sonos. I think we have around ten zones, including a Beam paired with two Play:1s for surround sound in our family room and a Move for taking out on the deck. I also have a Connect hooked up to our 5.1 Receiver in our media room, so I can send music to an "old school" set of speakers :-)
We have them setup with Spotify and Apple Music as well as a NAS containing mp3s of all the CDs (remember them?) I own.

I spy some Tracy Grammer! We saw her and Dave numerous times in the early 2000s. The Verdant Mile is an incredible song.

I have the big ones in my living room, but I have Play 5s in my office and master. Play 1s are in the master bath and my front room/exercise/music room. They all work great!
