Joy of a real tube amp

Years ago I played a Marshall Blues Breaker. I think it was 45 watts. I'd set it on ten and use the guitar volume to move from clean to dirty. It worked great because the louder songs called for a dirtier guitar sound.

Yup I agree. My two main amps now are a '72 Twin and my practice amp is a Mesa Studio .22.

I agree the amp modeling has come a long way but it's just not the same imho. Easier? Yes definitely. Good enough? Yup that too. But no thanks, I'm still young enough to lug the Twin around

Whenever I have plugged into my old Deluxe Reverb it has always sounds great. I have tried many other amps. I always end up back at the old Fender.

Same here. Most of the time, I don't use pedals with the DR, because they're not needed.

I am fortunate to own a fairly cherry early 70's Fender Deluxe Reverb... terrific amplifier, and when I bought it in ~2004, it still had ALL ORIGINAL tubes in it, and they were just fine!

After over a decade of sporadic playing time, I finally had it re-tubed and biased and all, and I was just playing my Gibson 345 through it last night... just reveling in what a sweet tone that thing has... not to mention "what happens" when the volume get turned up.

One thing about nice tube amps is the sublime interaction between player, guitar and amplifier that happens as the volume threshold increases... and that marvelous sound and feeling just doesn't happen at low volume levels, no matter how good the modeler or the gear is...

I don't get the chance to get out and gig with that amp much anymore, and usually play it at lower volumes in the tiny place I live, so I'll use a pedal or just play clean... but that experience of a sweet tube amp and guitar, at volume, is simply unreplaceable!

Of course, the body doesn't want to lug around even a modestly weighted Deluxe Reverb, so there is a LOT of merit to using the newfangled stuff that weighs ounces instead of pounds!

This is pure Class A, built from a kit. Between about 6 and 22 watts, depending on the power tube. It will take most of the big power tubes.

For sure!! I use a 1964 Fender deluxe reverb, since 1969. Whenever I play other amps, when I return to the fender, I'm amazed.
