My guitars are a lot easier to live with than any ex-girlfriends, or ex-wives for that matter. While I eagerly await the return of the aforementioned guitar, not so much for the old wives or girlfriends....

Sold and shipped two guitars (oddly both 12-strings) to two different buyers and then agreed to take them back (buyer paying the shipping) after buyer's remorse.

Eventually sold one of those to someone else who was very pleased with it. I still have the Guild.

RP,

I am very curious. What is the guitar that is on it's way back to you? If for any reason you can't say, that's OK.

I just know it's not a certain beloved 12 string. ;-)

I have not done that.

BUT logistically we have tried to move away from Wyoming 4 times in the last 20 years and always return, does that count ?

It's not a "certain beloved 12 string," but that "certain beloved 12 string" is now at the top of my "I'd love to get it back" list. Please keep that in mind, Don. FWI The one coming back is my Taylor 714....

Sure it counts, but possibly on a different forum like Wyoming is for Lovers...

I'm glad it sold this time around for the sake of my wallet. Hard to pass up a nice DN at that price.

Never. I only ever sold one guitar, many years ago (a Taylor 814CE), that was done under duress. I've had others since then but never found a desire or need to find the sold guitar. There are far too many guitars in the .... guitar world, to try to find the exact one that was sold.

The guitars I've sold no longer served their purpose as well as their replacements did. I hope they're being enjoyed by their new owners, but I don't want any of them back.

This one. I traded it to a shop where it hung on the wall for four years, waiting for me to come to my senses. They were happy to trade it back to me.

Two - a 1953 Epiphone Triumph Regent and a 1950s Oahu Tone Master Lap Steel. Sold them and bought them both back. Even ended up paying $100 more for the Epi than what I had sold it for.

This has happened to me multiple times. Particular guitars that come to mind are my Les Paul Traditional, Martin D-18, and my 000. The 000 is a different flavor, but missed the specific tone of having a 000. I probably miss amps more than guitars though...imagine that.

What I've found is that the experience the second time around is never as intoxicating as the first. Most of the time, the honeymoon is terribly short and the characteristics of the guitars that led me to sell them the first time present themselves much more quickly.

Sometimes you get lucky. My newest D-18 is head and shoulders better than I remember my previous D-18 being. More power and low end. However, my 000-18, while a good representation of a 000, has already reminded me why I keep falling for 000s only to regret it almost instantly. They have such a sultry sound, but they just lack the big full low end sound I want from acoustics. This is now the 4th time I've fallen captive to the "idealized" experience of owning a 000. I tell myself it is going to be the guitar I play more because it is comfortable, and it's so responsive. The mid heavy tone is sweet and I just feel like I could make a 000 my main guitar. Yeah, no not really. Never happens.

While I think I need/want diversity and different guitars for different voices, I really just apparently don't. If a guitar isn't resonating my chest into submission, I just can't seem to get into that guitar. I guess the experience I have when I play my 000-18 is, "why play this when you can get more of everything out of the D-18?"
